Alight Solutions seeks a high-performing Employment Attorney looking for an opportunity to join a collaborative and energetic legal department to support a rapidly transforming and dynamic business. Our legal team is located at Alight's headquarters in Lincolnshire, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago. This position can be remote. This position will report to the Legal Department, Head of Litigation and Employment Law and serves as legal advisor on Employment law issues to HR and business leaders and others in the legal organization.

The day to day responsibilities of the Senior Counsel (Employment) will include:


  • Serving as legal advisor to business leaders, HR, and other legal professionals, on managing risk associated with employment laws in the United States, including Title VII, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, WARN and the ADEA;

  • Advising and counseling HR and the business on recruiting talent; restrictive covenants; disciplinary actions, terminations, OFCCP affirmative action plans and related audits; monitoring changes to US employment laws;

  • Managing, assisting with and handling matters at administrative agencies, including the EEOC and State Fair Employment Agencies; drafting position statements; appearing at fact-finding conferences and attend mediations; handling matters with other administrative agencies, such as OFCCP audits and DOL audits and wage-claim issues;

  • Assisting with the investigation of employment and employee related claims;

  • Contributing to the development of internal policies, guidelines, toolkits and job-aids on Employment law and business issues, including updating policies and processes to reflect legal developments and operational changes.

  • Supporting strategic projects, advising HR, Legal and business operations management as appropriate;

  • Managing outside counsel relationships on assigned matters, including managing budgets.

  • Counseling, guiding, and supporting other Legal Department attorneys as appropriate, to ensure Alight best practices regarding our colleagues are incorporated in client and vendor agreements;

Required Knowledge and Professional Skills

  • Written communication skills to compose complex reports, legal documents, proposals, and business plans, and to adequately explain complexities;

  • Oral communication skills to communicate with customers, co-workers, direct reports, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner;

  • Interpersonal skills to negotiate key business strategies or significant agreements favorable to the Company, reconciling differences to arrive at acceptable solutions;

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret legal documents, financial reports, business plans and strategies, and professional journals;

  • Focused client-service, with timely responses to requests and provision of responsive, accurate information;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;

  • Experience with legal research services (i.e. Lexis, Westlaw) and sources including online research tools and PACER;

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of legal ethics rules and handling highly confidential information discreetly and professionally.

Required Professional Qualifications


  • J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school, current bar admission

  • 3-7 years of employment law experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal position

Desired Knowledge/Skills


  • Global employment law experience

  • Familiarity with in-house corporate law department

Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act Statement. Please note, offers are being determined on an individual basis. Alight takes into consideration the candidate's experience, education, certification/credentials, market data and internal equity. The estimated minimum salary for this role is $114,500.00/year (full-time). In addition to the base salary, this position may be bonus eligible.
