OQ Evaluator / Trainer (Gas) at Pike Electric, Inc.

Job Description:

Position Summary: The Operator Qualifications Trainer/Evaluator is responsible for working with field crews in on-the-job training, effectively evaluating employee task knowledge, communicating proper techniques per Operator specifications, and leading group training.

Essential Functions:


  • Ensure compliance with DOT CFR 49 part 192 subpart N and CFR 49 part 195 subpart G (the OQ rule) as it relates to qualified personnel conducting tasks on pipeline facilities.

  • Conduct on-site and field evaluations in accordance with DOT, OQ providers, and Operator policies and procedures by effectively evaluating candidates task knowledge.

  • Maintain the DOT Operator Qualification program for Pike Gas Services, LLC employees.

  • Conduct company OQ assessments, as needed, to ensure employees are properly qualified and meet all DOT qualification requirements.

  • Track employee development and On The Job Training (OJT) to ensure employees are learning the skills to perform their jobs safely and effectively.

  • Determine initial training requirements for each employee and ensures that all training is completed satisfactorily in pursuit of new employee development.

  • Maintain process operator refresher training schedules and administers refresher training.

  • Develop and deliver training to support needs of business, maintain all training documentation, including initial and refresher training records, outlines of training, training schedules, etc.

  • Promote and champion corporate training systems and services with a deep commitment to safety and quality.

  • Evaluate and maintain inspection and testing reports for multiple disciplines including mechanical, civil, electrical, structural, etc.

  • Develop project specific QA/QC documentation and control procedures.

  • Audit field QA/QC documentation for accuracy.

  • Train field employees on proper QA/QC documentation.

  • Must be willing to travel throughout the United States.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience and/or field knowledge preferred but not limited to: Pipeline installation and maintenance, corrosion maintenance, coating application and maintenance, cathodic protection systems, pressure regulating, location and line marking, excavating and back-filling, welding and atmospheric monitoring, inspection and valve maintenance.

  • Highly proficiency in gas operation and station work procedures


  • Previous or current certification to be an OQ Evaluator for ITS, EWN, and Veriforce.  Bachelor's degree in Safety or related field preferred.

  • Proven communication and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of DOT Operator Qualification Rules and its application to the industry. Experienced in the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) databases, and other computer software systems.

  • Experience in developing technical documentation and/or training materials related to Operators and Maintenance is preferred.

  • Ability to identify and record proper and improper practices on a natural gas job site per audit metrics. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and communicating information across company and department lines.

  • Strong technical writing and communication skills required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
