We are seeking an Email Marketing Manager to join our Blue Buffalo consumer (Pet Parent) Engagement Team and report directly to the Senior Digital Marketing Manager. This role will manage and deliver on the Pet Parent relationship engagement strategy and influence the technology solutions to advance our consumer relationship engagement strategies forward. The Email Marketing Manager will play a key role in creating and orchestrating Blue Buffalo's email marketing strategies and programs to increase consumer (Pet Parent) acquisition, engagement, and retention with the goal of increased monetization and achieving annual business targets. This role will collaborate closely with CRM Strategists, Content, Social and Web channel leads, as well as Agency and Vendor partners on the design and delivery of omni-channel campaigns that meet consumer (Pet Parent) engagement preferences.

Essential Functions:


  • Develop the multi-touch email marketing strategy, roadmap, and programs needed to deliver on consumers (Pet Parents) engagement expectations, partnering closely with Brand, Experience and other Digital Marketing team counterparts for alignment and support in the execution of omni-channel campaigns and communications

  • Manage the day-to-day technical creation and execution of ad hoc emails and multi-channel journeys working with vendor partners, including email journey and audience builds, QA, deployment and the reporting and measurement on campaign performance

  • Coordinate and project manage the deployment of email campaigns across functional teams for integrated and connected omni-channel campaigns that deliver on CRM objectives

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with agency and vendor partners to deliver integrated campaigns in support of omni-channel CRM strategies, including triggered communication journeys beyond inclusive of email, push notifications, paid channels, and more.

  • Work with the Performance and Optimization team to actively monitor & report on the performance of email strategies, programs and campaigns. Share learnings with Digital Marketing channel counterparts (web, social, other) and collaborate on omni-channel optimization strategies, where relevant

  • Oversee and manage testing strategies focused on gaining insights on the consumer (Pet Parent) email experience and uncovering opportunities for optimization

  • Partner across the organization to ensure dynamic content is meeting needs of consumer (Pet Parent) audiences and provide feedback and recommendations to design and content teams based on in-channel performance insights.Identify and implement new SalesForce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) features and functionality supporting customer relationship contact strategies and digital experiences that delights consumers (Pet Parents) and drives results

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on the development and delivery of the consumer (Pet Parent) journey strategy, working to guide creative and content improvements and channel optimization efforts across Blue Buffalo's consumer relationship platforms

  • Partner with MarTech and Enterprise technology teams, as needed to configure platforms and tools to enable the execution of consumer (Pet Parent) communications in-market.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Blue Buffalo's email marketing efforts and ensure that SalesForce Marketing Cloud capabilities are best realized to deliver on consumer (Pet Parent) experience objectives

Other Responsibilities as Requested:


  • Strong knowledge of and experience with personalization efforts across web, email, and social channels. This includes working with our agency and analytic partners as well as internal teams to help guide them on our personalization priorities and to set the pieces in motion for audience segmentation and content matching based on our consumer (Pet Parent) journeys.

  • Experience with end-to-end testing (A/B and multivariate), research, and analytics plans; working with partners to identify opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or related area.

  • 5+ years in a email marketing, digital marketing role working on email marketing strategies and email campaign deployment

  • 2+ years working experience with SalesForce Marketing Cloud

  • HTML experience required

  • Experience building and managing consumer facing multi-channel communications, including email campaign management

  • Experience with dynamic content, building data rules and requirements to deliver experiences across platforms and devices

  • Experience with campaign set-up, audience segmentation activities and deployment

  • Experience with and understanding of image libraries and optimization of images

  • Familiarity with API calls and other trigger communication related technology beyond email (including push notification, and paid channels)

  • Adept at working with cross-functional teams and leading the efforts of multiple agency and vendor partners

  • Must be able to work in an environment with free-roaming companion pets

Preferred Qualifications:


  • AMP scripting experience preferred

  • Demonstrated experience at explaining and building support for digital and technical initiatives.

  • Understand and monitor the competitive landscape for direct to consumer acquisition and retention marketing

  • Positive attitude, leadership qualities, and flexible team-oriented approach to working with others

  • Demonstrated partnership with cross-functional teams

  • Ability to translate strategy into tactical executions

  • Track record of close collaboration with creative partners to bring holistic ideas to life

  • Must be able to work in environment with free-roaming companion pets

  • Pet enthusiast preferred
