We are looking for a full-time Process Technician (2nd Shift) for our headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.  The Board Assembly Team (BAT) is responsible for the production of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) for Garmin’s products.  The PCBs are assembled using highly automated equipment due to the complexity of certain designs and the amount of volume that is required on a daily basis.  The Process Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting all areas of PCB assembly, responding to manufacturing issues as they arise and ensuring that all processes are followed as defined by the Process Engineering team.  Other essential functions include


  • Assist Engineers with the procurement and/or design of components, the fabrication of equipment or tooling and the implementation of process improvements 

  • Plan or Apply expertise to develop and continuously improve production methods including layout, production flow, tooling and production equipment, material, fabrication, and assembly methods requirements

  • Write rework shop order work instructions and routings

  • Update and maintain work instructions, and implement Engineering Change Orders

  • Assist manufacturing personnel with the setup, operation and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment 

  • Ability to own small assigned projects and tasks

  • Coordinate and/or perform preventive maintenance on production equipment

  • Monitor statistical methods to analyze product or process performance

  • Manage production tools, jigs, and fixtures in accordance with documented Engineering requirements and Lean principles such as Poka Yoke

  • Assist management and process engineering to train production staff

  • Control expenditures within limitations of project budget

  • Prepare recommendations for reorganization of work cells and job duties to increase efficiency and eliminate excess processing steps and labor costs

  • Manage production metric data, prepare reports and present to peers and management

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure personnel safety

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Qualified candidates possess a high school diploma or GED; Other requirements include


  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years Garmin Assembly related experience or an Associates degree in a technical field

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel 

  • Must possess the ability to lift up to 55 pounds while using safe lifting techniques and standing for an entire shift.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Associates Degree in Electronics, Industrial, or Manufacturing Technology or a substantially related field

  • Previous experience with automated assembly and testing equipment

  • Previous experience with computer aided drafting (CAD) applications

  • Previous electronics soldering experience
