Position Overview:



The Senior Security Engineer contributes to the success of our mission by acting as a security engineering subject matter expert. This position reports to the Security Engineering and Operations Manager to assist with execution of processes and automation opportunities to monitor, control and detect malicious or anomalous network traffic, maintain established level of services and network security policies, and remediate any gaps to achieve optimal level of security in the organizations computer network.

Responsibilities:



  • Assist with implementation of the strategy, roadmap and delivery plans for IT Security in coordination with the Network Architecture and Engineering functions

  • Execute on day-to-day operations and maintenance of all the systems/components involved in IT Security, as directed

  • Maintain security devices and technologies such as firewalls, proxies, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), SIEM, End Point Protection, Vulnerability Scanning, Email Security, and Threat Behavioral Analytics

  • Assist with implementation of email security & SOAR solutions

  • Monitor network security trends and suggest changes to policy, procedures, and tools to enhance Entergy's network security posture

  • Track metrics for the effectiveness and maturity of network security operations

  • Support digitization efforts to automate routine playbooks




Experience and Qualifications Required:




Basic Qualifications:



  • Associate's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Mathematics or similar and six (6) years of full time experience, or a Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of experience.

  • 3-5+ years of demonstrated experience in network security administration including enterprise firewall management, VPN, forward and reverse proxy, packet brokers, and certificate management.

  • One of the following certifications must be held:

    • CompTIA Security +

    • EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)

    • CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+)

    • Cisco Certified Network Associate-Security (CCNA-Security)

    • CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+)

    • ISC Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

    • GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)

    • GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst (GCFA)

    • GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH)



  • Knowledge in security operations, cyber security monitoring, intrusion detection, and secured networks

  • Able to use technical engineering and process management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct, with minimal supervision to achieve assigned goals

  • Experience performing data analytics using host and network logs

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience tuning detections to reduce false positives and detection creation

  • Understanding of SOAR platforms and process automation

  • Ability to script in python and/or PowerShell

  • Strong technical documentation and reporting skills
