JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Operations Manager drives the delivery of a robust safety culture and compliance with Lendlease's safety protocols (GMRs), across multiple high-profile large projects, to operate incident and injury free. In this role you will apply your safety and construction knowledge, while leveraging your positive leadership skills to inspire collaboration and ingenuity in planning and performing construction activities. You will work as part of the construction and development teams in planning and setting up safe delivery of projects, including design, logistics, and procurement. This role will be acting as the lead in Northern California with the opportunity to potentially become a manager of others as the team grows.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following describes the general nature of the work and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all that is required to be performed.


  • Maintains a robust understanding of safety requirements for all aspects of the site, including pre-planning, monitoring of asset/construction activities and site conditions, and takes corrective actions for non-compliant work.


  • Leads regular project evaluations and debriefs to ensure the timely identification of critical risks.


  • Actively seeks opportunities to coach, mentor and build EHS capabilities of the project team.


  • Understands the impact of EHS issues and collaborates with stakeholders to assure compliant EHS outcomes across the project.


  • Actively tracks and monitors performance and takes action to address underperformance. Builds a sense of shared purpose and inspires commitment to action.


  • On a daily basis, maintain an overall understanding of all construction activities and site conditions.


  • Work with the project team to continually monitor activity onsite and identify potential EHS risks. Lead and ensure corrective actions taken for all identified risks.


  • Actively participate in pre-task planning to anticipate and address EHS risks.


  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of EHS requirements and procedures for all aspects of the site.


  • Understand how to apply Lendlease EHS standards, protocols and technologies. Effectively communicate them and help determine solutions.


  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assure compliant EHS outcomes across the project. Build a sense of shared purpose and inspires commitment to action.


  • Instill discipline in project team members to follow safety procedures and provides consistent and reliable reporting information.


  • Manage compliance with all relevant reporting systems and accreditation across the project.


  • Actively track and monitor EHS performance on site, taking action to address underperformance. Additionally identify common themes in poor performance, sharing trends and recommendations with team members and leadership.


  • Lead regular project evaluations and debriefs to ensure the timely identification of critical risks to EHS delivery.


  • Actively seek opportunities to coach, mentor and build EHS capabilities of the project team.


  • Engage in continuous professional development to build EHS technical capability and management skills.


  • Maintain broad and up-to-date knowledge of current best practice. Ensure knowledge is effectively shared across the project team.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • Possess the knowledge and skills typically achieved in at least 10 years of construction safety experience on large commercial projects. , with prior experience performing a Safety role.


  • Requires excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.


  • Prior field experinece is a strong plus.


  • CHST, CSP, or related professional certification is preferred.


  • Four-year Bachelor Degree in an accredited safety or construction related curriculum, or experience equivalent to a four-year degree.


  • Full proficiency in standard office computer software, including Microsoft Excel, and able to use computer based applications for documentation
