FTI is currently seeking a mid-level Systems Engineer with experience in Digital Engineering (DE) and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to support the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Portfolio Architecture Engineering in El Segundo, California.
The candidate will support the DE efforts/activities and apply systems engineering knowledge to execute DE processes and MBSE methodologies. The candidate will support MBSE product development to support an integrated SMC DE approach. The candidate will be expected to identify and apply MBSE methods/tools to support development and definition of space architecture artifacts using Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and UPDM. The candidate will also interface directly with customers, support development of DE guidance, and implement strategies.
This position requires a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance and the candidate must be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI.
Responsibilities
Develop and guide overarching DE strategy for SMC and the US Space Force (USSF)
Develop and refine model artifacts identifying organizational system processes, internal/external interfaces, requirements, and issues for SMC
Translate documented processes into executable SysML products
Communicate timely and effectively with Senior Government Customers on DE Strategy, Ontology and Systems Engineering efforts/status
Coordinate with various stakeholders to identify technical interfaces and capabilities needed in a DE Environment and translate technical data into MBSE artifacts
Consolidate and analyze DE efforts and technical content from multiple sources
Develop lower level MBSE model views to support enterprise strategies using SysML and provide guidance on Styleguide development
Implement DE methodologies to capture and define Enterprise Verification and Validation Plans
Perform technical reviews and assessments to brief all stakeholders
Identify process issues, evaluate alternatives, develop plans, and resolve technical issues with functional areas across SMC
Leverage FTI small business innovation research (SBIR) analysis methods and tools to enhance engineering processes and improve rigor of Course of Action (COA) assessments
Leverage FTI SBIR-developed tools to include but not limited to Integrated Cost as an Independent Variable (I-CAIV), Readiness Assessment Engine (RAE), NormNet Prognostic Health Management, Integrated Sensor Analysis Tool (I-SAT), and the Extensible Load-Adaptive Processing Service (ELAPSE)
Education/Qualifications
Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance and eligible to obtain a TS/SCI
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
Master's degree in Engineering strongly preferred with 5+ years actively working as Systems Engineer (background in Space Systems must include Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and DE
Must have experience working with MBSE tools (e.g. Sparx EA, Cameo, etc.) and system architecture development
Experience with architecture development and familiarity with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and related architecture guidance
Strong understanding of meta models and data domains
Ability to think critically, synthesize information from multiple sources into comprehensive plans, identify technical issues, and understand higher level impacts
Familiarity with MS Excel and other MS Office tools to develop concise and presentable information
Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills to deliver technical documents and briefings
Ability to work independently with cross functional teams with minimal oversight
Preferred familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure (e.g. AWS, HMC, etc.) and data base repository development
