Job Description:

The Learning Research Insights and Experience Designer Senior Advisor will play two roles on the Enterprise Learning Solutions team, depending on stakeholder and business needs. Approximately 50% of the Senior Advisor's time will be spent in each role. Success in this position requires a blend of creativity, analysis, and customer focus. Across a range of topics and mediums, this role will apply User Experience (UX), adult learning theories and Design Thinking practices to design learning experiences that support the business outcomes of Cigna.

The Learning Senior Advisor designs, conducts and delivers timely qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis in order to drive and deliver best-in-class enterprise learning and employee development across the Cigna enterprise. This role will partner with various departments, learning professionals and key stakeholders to consult, collaborate on and disseminate learning data and insights to help drive key program objectives and improved business outcomes.

The Learning Senior Advisor designs learning solutions and resources of increasing complexity for professionals and facilitators to train employees to perform their jobs. Types of deliverables may include e-learning/self-paced learning solutions, multimedia, materials for instructor-led training, and job aids. The Designer will focus on design and may also focus on development depending on organizational needs.

This role will be responsible for delivering on the Enterprise Learning Team's Next Generation of Learning vision, including key responsibility for achieving critical goals and outcomes, including: Learning needs to be easy, effective, meaningful and measurable to support our employees throughout their career development and increase our effectiveness as ONE organization. Key outcomes of these goals include: 1) Organizational talent is skilled in the key capabilities that will drive our business forward and 2) Enable a learning culture where employees easily access learning to do their jobs and grow their careers. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Manages medium to large scale complex research and/or design projects/programs that have high visibility and drives them to completion.


  • Directs or performs the analysis, design, development, and implementation of training materials, programs and interventions.


  • Drives thought leadership in instructional design process and innovation with the ability to design creative solutions matched to business and learning needs of the organization.


  • Creates effective learning objectives linked to measurable outcomes in partnership with key stakeholders and team members.


  • Applies advanced adult learning theories to design and develop practical, application-based learning.


  • Builds wireframes and rapid prototyping to support user research and experimentation.


  • Develops re-usable visual and interactive components to create a consistent experience across a variety of learning topics and authors.


  • Drives stakeholder commitment to proposed design concepts. Acts as a consultant to key stakeholders, driving the design process forward.


  • Delivers leading-edge solutions. May work with team to explore new technologies or be internal lead for a specific technology.


  • Collaborates to share best practices and define company-wide learning strategies with the organization and Learning Excellence Community (LEC).



  • Utilizes research and design thinking best practices to guide best-in-class learner understanding to create and drive successful programs.


  • Responsible for all forms of primary data and research collection, including qualitative (e.g., in-depth empathic interviews, focus groups), quantitative (e.g., voice of the learner surveys, learner segmentation, etc.) and usability research (e.g., assessments to guide improvements on learning platforms, including LMS, myUniversity and others).


  • Leads development of comprehensive research plans and manages all research projects to assist the Enterprise Learning team and key stakeholders with research initiatives from development of research materials and protocols (e.g., participant screeners, qualitative discussion guides, surveys and more) through conducting of research, analysis of primary research data (with support from and collaboration with Learning Data Architect) and presenting of results to stakeholders.


  • Responsible for consistent sharing/updating of primary research data and insights to drive Cigna's learning strategy and content needs.


  • Collaborates with Learning Data Architect to analyze primary data/research results and maintain a database of learning insights to leverage and disseminate across initiatives, teams and stakeholders.


  • Collaborates with Learning Data Architect and other teams in Learning Solutions and HR on Comprehensive Measurement strategy, Team Effectiveness Dashboards and other data/measurement opportunities, as needed.


  • Responsible for dissemination of data and insights to key stakeholders and Learning Excellence Community (LEC) through various internal marketing strategies, including but not limited to, Iris website and blog posts, team meetings, town halls and other stakeholder meetings/channels, as identified.


  • Maintains research best practices through constant learning. Stays abreast of research, data and insights trends through various resources, memberships (e.g., Gartner, NLI and more) and updates best practices in research and design, as needed.


Qualifications:


  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.


  • Ability to co-create, collaborate, and build strategic, trusted partnerships with team and key stakeholders.


  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience using, various qualitative and quantitative methodologies and the ability to quickly design a research program/project to achieve key objectives.


  • Demonstrated Design Thinking methodology knowledge and ability to conduct Design Thinking sessions is a plus.


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both visual, oral and written form, including the ability to deliver engaging presentations to all audiences, including business leaders.


  • Ability to work independently, make effective decisions, and coordinate tasks while managing and balancing multiple, highly visible projects simultaneously.


  • Track record of demonstrating critical thinking and leveraging information/data to inform decisions, improvements, and next steps.


  • Ability to influence without authority and drive for results. Previous experience with communications and project management a plus.


  • Creative thinker and strong problem-solver with a continuous improvement, growth mindset.


  • Ability to use a variety of software to facilitate interviews/focus groups and record and transcribe interviews is a plus.


  • Proven experience prototyping and building wireframes.


  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts.


  • Solid knowledge of course development software and Learning Management Systems.


  • Demonstrated visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard.


  • Ability to manage design and development vendors.


  • Demonstrated focus on continuous self-learning and exploring new trends, strategies, and practices in the talent development field.


  • Experience working in an agile (SAM) and waterfall (ADDIE) design environment.


Education & Requirements


  • 8+ years of experience in corporate training departments in a variety of L&D roles (e.g., instructional designer, facilitator, program leader, etc.)


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in learning science, human resources, training & development, organizational development, or a related field preferred.


  • Ability to travel up to an estimated 10% to team meetings, clients, workshops, etc.


This role requires 10% travel. You will need to be fully vaccinated in order to travel & meet the requirements for this position.

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
