Within Equinix, the Office of the CTO (OCTO) is chartered with:


  • Developing the company’s technology roadmap and target architecture to advance the vision of Platform Equinix based on a “software-defined-everything” model;


  • Driving next-generation technology development & innovation to guide decisions on new investments and service offerings; and


  • Delivering industry thought leadership, with a focus on building a closer engagement with the software developer community.


Equinix’s OCTO team members are seasoned technologists who have a deep passion for innovation and bring perspectives from diverse technology backgrounds and areas, including, and not limited to, distributed systems, cloud-native computing, software-defined infrastructure (data center, networking, bare-metal), large-scale data processing, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, security, etc.

The OCTO team is looking for a “Principal Technical Program Manager” to help drive and scale cross-functional initiatives focusing on next-generation capabilities that will help shape the technology vision and target architecture of Equinix's products and services. We are looking for someone with a passion for driving technology innovation “at software speed” with reliable execution.

This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer at Equinix.

While the preferred location for the role is our global headquarters in Redwood City, CA (or Sunnyvale, CA), there is an option for the selected candidate to be based at other major Equinix locations in the US.

As Principal Technical Program Manager, you will provide execution leadership to the OCTO team and will have the flexibility to work on multidisciplinary initiatives with the potential opportunity to learn new technologies as we continue to explore new areas of innovation across the infrastructure stack (data center, hardware, networking, cloud-native computing, etc.). In addition, you will help to develop, drive and evangelize OCTO team’s vision, objectives and implementation plans for various technology, architecture and strategic programs.

Responsibilities


  • Provide technical program management leadership to various OCTO initiatives (technology innovation & development, architecture, strategy and thought leadership).


  • Lead key communications efforts for both internal and external audiences.


  • Serve as liaison to the executive team & Chiefs of Staff to ensure stakeholder alignment.


  • Support OCTO financial planning and budget management activities, as needed.


Qualifications


  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.


  • 7+ years of experience in technology, engineering, engineering management, technical program/project management or a related technical field.


  • Experience managing complex technical programs/projects across multiple stages from ideation to delivery.


  • Exceptionally-strong written and verbal communication skills from engineering to executive.


  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver persuasive senior-executive-level content.


  • Familiarity with technology trends impacting the future of digital infrastructure.


  • Excellent collaboration and people skills with the ability to develop deep and trusted relationships across organizations to achieve common goals.


  • Familiarity with open-source and developer communities such as the Linux Foundation.
