In this exciting role as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer on the QIP team at Medtronic's Energy & Component Center (MECC), you will have responsibility for supporting and improving the manufacturing of high quality components used in implantable medical devices. You will be responsible for improving manufacturing quality, lead time and cost through active problem solving, developing solutions and implementing process changes in accordance with the quality system. This ideal candidate for this role will have extensive experience with managing and implementing process control and monitoring through SPC, developing and improving the capability of processes, and navigating the medical device manufacturing quality systems to include regulatory approvals and CAPA. This role reports to a Senior Engineering Manager at the Medtronic Energy and Component Center (MECC) located in Brooklyn Center, MN. What does it take to be a leader at Medtronic? A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Dynamic team player and can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of medical device processes with a good understanding of product and process design.
  • Good communicator and fluent in English, with a high level of enthusiasm and motivation.
  • Good organizational, presentation and project management skills are desirable.
  • Hands-on problem solver with solid knowledge of statistical analysis tools
  • Comfortable working hands-on with production equipment
