Job Overview

Creation and implementation of a strategic, multi-faceted communications program designed to build and strengthen Myers Industries communications to internal stakeholders. Key to success is the activation of communication strategies, tactics, and materials in support of our company culture and "One Myers" approach. This person should be a collaborative team player who is creative, solution-oriented, and capable of translating complex topics into commonly understood messages and stories. This role will work with other business leaders and provide quality control for all company-wide communications and this individual will be a valued and trusted communications resource for the company's executive leadership and business segments - as well as innovator and content developer that engages audiences through convincing and clear communications.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develop a strategic communications strategy to support the organization's mission, goals, and objectives. Engage Myers' shareholders, customers, employees, public officials, and other stakeholders by leveraging key tools such as the intranet, website, news releases, social media, annual shareholders' meetings, and other channels as appropriate.

  • Writes strategically and effectively for multiple audiences and mediums, including executive speeches and letters, news releases, media interviews, video scripts, organizational announcements, FAQs, and other materials.


  • Direct the development, implementation and management of external communications efforts including social media communications, investor communications, corporate advertising and community relations, news releases, news materials, fact sheets and talking points for publicity of the organization's programs and annual meetings.

  • Build and foster long-term working relationships with key external contacts including media, members of the community, public affairs offices, and other organizations.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of specific year-round communications programs including frequent and timely upkeep of corporate website and intranet, social media, corporate newsletter, and corporate all-employee meetings (a.k.a. "Town Halls").

  • Respond to media requests for information and facilitate media interviews with spokespeople, authors, and others. Proposes potential story ideas as they relate to national, local, business and occasionally trade media topics/issues.

  • Develop, research, and update the annual communications policies.

  • Interact with or coordinate the organization's communications support of special activities, including activities for local non-profit and charitable organizations and sponsorships.

  • Facilitate media training sessions to prepare business segment leadership for interactions with media representatives (Press Conferences, Interviews, Community Support).

  • Oversee vendor communications services and manage vendor relationships for corporate communications.

  • Works collaboratively with human resources and marketing communications at businesses to support internal and external communications, trade show events, news releases, facility openings and expansions.

  • Contributes to execution of major company-sponsored events and internal recognition programs.

  • All other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Exceptional and efficient writing skills combined with the ability to understand various audiences and mediums with which to deliver the communications. Ability to apply complex analytical and critical thinking skills.

* Strong business acumen. Must understand profitability concepts relative to growth strategies.

* Strong knowledge of social media tools and platforms.

* Ability to mobilize internally and externally to set and achieve business goals; able to articulate and drive required change and translate into actionable objectives across the organization.

* Excellent presentation, research, and project coordination skills.

* High customer service orientation with desire to spend time interacting with others. Must have strong sense of urgency and ability to deal with high stress situations in tight time frames.

* Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task.

* Ability to perform the function with little to no direction and oversight.

* Demonstrated ability to interact and influence effectively at the managerial, peer and executive level.

* Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; understanding of Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator a plus.

* Project management skills and ability to deliver projects on time and within budget while demonstrating professionalism and persuasiveness.

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree in Communications or Business Administration

* 5 - 7 plus years relevant experience in corporate communications or marketing communications, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
