Job Description:

Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.

Job title: Associate or Senior Editor

Department: Nature Reviews

Location: New York, London, Berlin

Closing Date: 1st October 2021

The Nature Reviews journals are unique resources and teaching tools, widely used by students and faculty. Dedicated to filtering and condensing the latest advances in their respective fields, the Reviews journals play an increasingly important part in improving the accessibility of original research.

Nature Reviews Psychology will join our highly influential family of Nature Reviews journals in 2022, publishing commissioned Review, Perspective and Comment articles covering the full breadth of psychological science, its applications, and wider societal implications. Core areas of the journal include clinical psychology, cognition & cognitive science, developmental psychology, emotion science, judgment & decision-making, sensation & perception, personality & social psychology, and psycholinguistics.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Associate or Senior Editor with broad understanding of the social psychology landscape, with an interest in group processes and intergroup relations, social cognition, attitudes and perception, interpersonal relationships, personality, identity and the self, emotion, motivation and judgement and decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for new developments and research trends, strong writing ability, and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Editor to commission articles, edit manuscripts, organize peer-review, and write editorial content. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through meetings, laboratory visits and international conferences. Therefore, a willingness to travel (when appropriate and required) and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish, is essential.

Candidates must have a PhD in psychology and ideally relevant post-doctoral research experience; a demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctness and language; and experience that indicates a proactive approach. Although all candidates will be considered, preference will be given to those with a background in social psychology. A keen interest in the practice and communication of science, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to absorb new areas of research are essential. Training will be provided, but previous editorial experience will be an advantage.

This is a full-time position, located in our New York, London, or Berlin offices.  We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.

To apply: Interested candidates should submit a recent CV, a brief cover letter explaining their interest in the position and salary expectation, and 5 ideas for review articles in social psychology to include in the journal (complete with a short scope, motivation for the idea, and suggested researcher to write the review).

All employees are currently working remotely. Once the office re-opens, all employees will be expected to be based in the office in line with our working from home policy.
