The Media Relations department serves to protect and promote our Publix brand and to be the primary face and voice of our company. In addition, we build, foster and maintain effective relationships with media partners. We represent Publix as the spokespeople on local, divisional and state issues and work in concert with Retail Operations, Retail Business Units and Community Relations in driving customer loyalty and sales.

This position has significant impact on Publix given its visibility and overall reach in the communities we serve, and its relationship with media, and ultimately our customers

 


  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting or English, or equivalent experience

  • at least five years in the field of journalism, communications or government affairs

  • knowledge of public relations disciplines

  • project management experience

  • intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • ability to effectively communicate messages on-camera

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • excellent analytical skills

  • willingness to travel

  • willingness to work extended hours

  • willingness to be on-call 24 hours a day/7 day a week


  • Master’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or continued education courses in related fields

  • seven or more years in the field of Journalism or communications

  • three or more years’ Publix Retail Experience

  • basic knowledge of Access

  • knowledge of grocery industry (inclusive of trends)

  • specific knowledge of Retail Business Units (RBUs) and their functions

  • specific knowledge of key community players and government officials

  • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credential

  • Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC) credential
