Field Geologist at Arcadis U.S.Inc.

Job Description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Geologist to join our firm in the NY/NJ/PA region. This mid-level position will be involved in various activities which support a diverse portfolio of environmental assessment and restoration projects. This position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills.

The desired candidate will possess great attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and can work independently with minimal supervision. Applicants should be solution oriented and have independent critical thinking skills to work as a productive member of high-performance teams. The ideal candidate will take ownership of tasks and projects, and be client focused.

Duties will include but are not limited to:


  • Perform fieldwork which may include drilling oversight for soil sampling and/or groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling
  • Coordinate and lead field teams
  • Prepare basic technical reports from start to finish, and co-author larger, more complex reports
  • Working effectively with project teams, clients, and all other stakeholders
  • Field data collection, analysis, and interpretation
  • Preparation of visual, graphical, and tabular summaries of environmental data and trends
  • Preparing cost estimates and proposals
  • Conducting project related research (historical data, regulations, etc.)

Key Attributes:


  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Experience working with different drilling methods, including bedrock drilling
  • Proficiency with MS Office Software
  • Willing to participate in emergency response activities - may require night, weekend and/or quick response work

This position requires both field and office work; the successful candidate should expect to be in the field/traveling up to 50% of the time. Candidates must have a good driving record, be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with potentially hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology or closely related field
  • 2 years of experience in environmental consulting

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Masters in Geology, Hydrogeology or closely related field
  • Geologists-in-Training or Professional Geologist License
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training and applicable 8-hour Refresher Certifications
