Job Summary

Based in Austin, TX, the Crisis and Issues Communications Sr. Manager reports to the Head of Corporate Integrated Marketing & Communications. Flex’s corporate marketing and communications team informs the world about the Company, our innovative manufacturing products and services, and the values that drive our company. With brand management and reputation also core to our function, the team includes professionals with backgrounds in public relations strategy, journalism, and marketing, among others. We are looking for a Crisis and Issues Communications Sr. Manager, who will be responsible for managing communications around a range of corporate and crisis situations, including issues preparedness and planning activities, developing and managing crisis playbooks, partnering with the global resiliency and crisis management team on running crisis simulations, and handling live crisis response for both internal and external audiences. This newly crafted position reports directly to the head of Marketing and Communications and is responsible for collaborating with a multifaceted set of subject matter authorities and partners to effectively address crisis as they arise, as well as define and implement a proactive issues management approach. This team member should have strong writing skills and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. The nature of the work also requires an ability and eagerness to juggle multiple responsibilities, inside and outside traditional work hours. Candidates with expertise in digital/social media and demonstrated experience managing high-stakes crisis communications projects are encouraged to apply.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:


  • Develop crisis response strategies, proactive and reactive statements, FAQs and other communications deliverables, as needed

  • Provide counsel on strategy, collaborating with business partners in legal, investor relations, HR, operations, marketing, as well other internal teams, as appropriate

  • Effectively connect with team members, sharing deadlines and identifying roadblocks that impact execution

  • Develop and implement response communications processes and procedures

  • In partnership with regional and corporate PR team members, execute proactive and reactive media relations strategies, as needed

  • Work with crisis communications agency to support real-time issues

  • Utilize strong influencing skills and persistence to manage feedback and approvals

  • Provide analysis and reports on key issues

  • Respond to intermittent and unexpected issues that may occur and result in work activity occurring outside of standard working hours

Here is some of what you’ll need (required):


  • Technology acumen and background in the manufacturing industry is a plus

  • Experience navigating a range of crises and issues, including but not limited to products, organizations, and natural disasters

  • Ability to partner with multiple functions and senior stakeholders with confidence

  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal business communication skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail and quality of work product

  • Ability to operate with grace and efficiency under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Sound problem identification, judgment, resolution and decision-making skills

  • High-level of integrity and discretion when presented with sensitive or confidential issues

Here are a few of our preferred experiences:


  • 7+ years of experience in global corporate communications; preferably in manufacturing, technology or at a Fortune 500 firm

  • Previous experience managing issues or crisis

  • Experience with direct labor environment or distributed workforce

  • Exposure to global markets a plus

  • Executive and employee communications experience a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in journalism, public relations, communications, or marketing

  • Agency experience a plus
