We are seeking a Supervisor, Speech Language Pathology (Adult Inpatient) to:


  • Provide direct line supervision for the Adult Inpatient Speech Language Pathology team at University Hospital.

  • Provide consultative and rehabilitative treatment services to complex patients admitted to the adult acute hospitals in the domains of speech, language and cognition

  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to create comprehensive evidence-based treatment plans to maximize functional outcomes and discharge plans

  • Work within the context of patient- and family- centered care in a primary and specialty care academic medical center

  • Develop new programs and outreach opportunities.

  • Seek continual learning opportunities to advance one’s own practice and educate others.

Education:
Minimum – Masters level degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders.

Work Experience:
Minimum – Five (5) years of experience working as a certified SLP, preferably in a medical setting.
Preferred – Ten (10) or more years of experience in a medical setting as a Speech Language Pathologist. Contribution to local or national professional boards and committees (such as ASHA or state-level speech and hearing associations). Record of presentation at national and regional professional conferences.

Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum – Wisconsin state license (or eligible) to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC - SLP). Certification in Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillator.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:


  • Familiarity with a variety of equipment, including computer software.

  • Organization, independence, time management, flexibility, and a positive attitude are crucial to successful performance.

  • Collaborates with peers while being open and approachable.

  • Coverage to other areas within the Speech-Language Pathology service line may be provided as necessary based on patient/client demands. Occasional work may be required on weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to direct communication at the right time in the right place to the right person using an appropriate medium. Ability to anticipate the need to change verbal communication style depending on situational needs. Communication reflects comfort, skill, and a full grasp of the content in all situations.

Physical Requirements:
Light: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position scheduled to work day shift, Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. No weekends or holidays are required. Hours may vary based on the needs of the department.
