The Technical Project Manager will drive and execute the development, build and delivery of new laser manufacturing system product platforms for customers in the laser marking, welding and cutting industries. This role is responsible for both technical innovation/design concepts based on customer needs and leveraging cross-functional teams to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery, including planning schedules and monitoring budgets. They will identify root causes, evaluate optimal solutions, and recommend comprehensive updates to refine our business processes. This person will Effectively communicate and regularly share relevant status updates and effectively articulate issues and recommendations to senior management.

Responsibilities


  • Pre-sale support: leverage technical expertise to assist sales activity and sales team in the NA region

  • Solve customer issues in quoting process and in NA systems development

  • Assist sales team in creating quotes

  • Technical point of contact for customers and external partners

  • At the design stage, identify alternatives and optimization opportunities that could impact the design, supplies or site operations, based on the strategy determined

  • Accept or reject changes in case of deviations from customer requirements and manage order changes in conjunction with project management

  • Record detailed customer requirements, constraints, and assumptions with stakeholders in order to establish the project deliverables and scope

  • Responsible for assembling a project team, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of projects

  • Responsible for project budget estimation, monitoring, and attainment throughout the project lifecycle

  • Lead the identification, assessment, monitoring and closure of project risks throughout the project lifecycle

  • Support and maintain project schedule, technical documentation and training materials for development tasks

  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques in order to keep the project plan accurate, updated, and reflective of authorized changes to facilitate customer acceptance

  • Schedule and facilitate a detailed equipment concept and proposal review meeting with team members from Electrical, Mechanical and Controls Engineering

  • Review layouts and designs with Design Vendors/Engineering Department. Coordinate meetings with the design groups and representatives of any other departments, as the need arises

  • Schedule and facilitate formal design review meetings between the customers' representatives and engineering team members

  • Improve team performance by building team cohesiveness, leading, influencing, and motivating in order to facilitate cooperation, ensure project efficiency, and foster employee engagement

  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques in order to monitor the progress of the project, identify and quantify any variances, perform any required corrective actions, and communicate to all stakeholders

  • Represent project status through regular status reporting opportunities. Manage status communication with project team and functional managers. After project completion, share best practices and lessons learned

  • Use leadership skills to ensure that cross-functional resources are held accountable for task and outcome completion

  • Support the Manufacturing kick off meeting and advise Manufacturing of any customer considerations, requests, and specifications

  • Ensure all As Built and Non-Conformances are updated on drawings as supplied by Manufacturing

  • Collect all information generated by an Engineering Change to determine project impact and support cost negotiations as required

  • Act as the driving force for the team, promoting cooperation, conflict resolution & negotiation

  • Post-sale support: assist technical support colleagues in troubleshooting and fixing customer equipment

Education and Work Experience:

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or another relevant technical field

  • 6+ years related machine design / industrial automation experience with at least three years of project management experience

  • Competence in controls engineering and mechanical design knowledge

  • Wrike (preferred) or Microsoft Project experience

Desired qualifications


  • PMP certification or equivalent

  • Previous experience in or exposure to a relevant key customer market such as medical device marking

  • Ability to review CAD models using the required software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks)

  • Machine Tools Controls / PLC Experience

  • Optical systems level design experience

  • Previous experience interacting with external customers
