Job Description:

Geosyntec is seeking an Environmental Technician to join our team in Green Bay or Mequon, Wisconsin. The role is ideal for individuals interested in building a career in the environmental construction and consulting fields. You will compile construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring data; perform a variety of multi-media sampling efforts; support environmental and remediation construction projects; and provide additional field and office support to geologists and engineers for a diverse private and public-sector client base. You will work on your own or as a part of a larger field support team on site-specific project tasks. The ability and willingness to work outdoors, perform extensive fieldwork, and travel for extensive periods of time, including overnights, weekends, and holidays is required.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Conduct field work including, soil, sediment, groundwater and surface water sampling, aquifer testing, monitoring well installation, well development, and well purging and sampling;

  • Conduct routine gauging and sampling of groundwater monitoring wells in accordance with State and Federal protocols including labeling, preparation of chain-of-custody forms and packaging samples for shipment;

  • Provide construction oversight support of environmental remediation projects and operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems;

  • Assist with installations of remediation systems;

  • Monitor activities on remediation/construction sites to ensure compliance with Safety requirements (client and Geosyntec) and contract documents (e.g. technical specifications);

  • Prepare detailed notes in field forms or reports and photo-document observations made during field work and remediation/construction oversight activities;

  • Ensure field documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures;

  • Maintain, calibrate and purchase, as needed, field testing equipment and supplies;

  • Coordinate scheduling with project personnel including project managers, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors;

  • Participate in project meetings;

  • Assist in the preparation of the work plans, health and safety documents, final reports, and the assembly of report appendices; and

  • Observe and adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in site-specific project health and safety plans and the company's Health and Safety Management policies and procedures.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training, OSHA 10-hour Construction training, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional and technical development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our staff to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.


  • Fieldwork: Ability and willingness to travel and perform field work 80% to 100% of the time (this will include working outdoors in challenging weather and field conditions).


  • Overnight travel: Up to 100%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE



  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). (required)

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college and the ability to monitor several different types of construction and environmental activities simultaneously. (preferred)


SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • At least 1 year of directly applicable environmental field-testing experience or similar civil construction experience. (preferred)

  • Technical experience in use of environmental sampling and testing equipment. (preferred)

  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings. (preferred)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. (required)

  • Strong mathematical background with the ability to perform calculations in basic geometry and use of algebra. (required)

  • Possess good mechanical aptitude and solid troubleshooting skills. (required)

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic. (required)

  • Flexibility to work on multiple diverse project tasks and an eagerness to acquire new skills and meet new challenges. (required)

  • Ability to manage subcontractors. (required)

  • Excellent written, oral communication, and organizational skills. (required)

  • Per client requirements as needed, the ability to pass a drug test and background check.

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)

  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators License for specific projects on an as needed basis. (required)

  • Valid U.S. driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation, for business travel. (required)
