Job Description:

The Department Business Administrator I oversees the administrative, financial, and human resources processes of a small to medium-size department

DUTIES


  1. Oversees departmental financial activities and may review and approve expenditure documents

  2. Prepares and/or monitors the preparation of all personnel documents

  3. Interprets, reviews, and updates departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance

  4. Coordinates travel arrangements

  5. Keeps record of inventory and orders supplies as needed

  6. May perform monthly verifications of cost centers and may generate monthly financial and budget reports

MARGINAL DUTIES


  1. Performs tasks related to specific department/college

  2. Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Reports: May supervise full-time and/or part-time employees

Delegation of Work: May regularly assigns work to subordinate(s)

Supervision Given: May make a final decision on evaluating employee performance; hiring new employees; disciplinary actions; makes final decision on scheduling employee work hours; makes the final decision on coaching and counseling; training; provides recommendations on handling employee grievances and complaints, and makes the final decision on granting time off

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:


  1. Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position

Skills:


  1. Candidates must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:


  1. Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community


WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment 6 to 8 hours

Physical Demands: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements. The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about sitting walking, standing, etc. The work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.
