Job Description
At CoBank, our Lead Relationship Manager manages the overall profitability and credit quality of a large and complex loan portfolio. Recommends credit decisions as appropriate. Develops and implements marketing and account servicing plans to capitalize on marketing opportunities within assigned market and/or industry segment. Develops and supports the division's account management responsibilities. Develops new business and manages existing portfolio. Provides mentoring and coaching support to other staff, and may manage some staff.
Essential Duties
Participates in establishing overall profitability targets for the portfolio in conjunction with bank/group profitability targets.
Supports deal structuring and manages large and complex loan portfolio. Analyzes, structures, and obtains credit approval for transactions.
Cross-markets all CoBank products and services to meet new business goals for assigned portfolio. Develops and implements plans to capitalize on marketing opportunities.
Builds portfolio, manages relationships, and develops new business. Meets regularly with customers and gathers information on their businesses, needs, strategic direction, and earnings to determine business opportunities.
Serves as primary negotiator on complex credits. Negotiates multi-lender credit facilities and inter-creditor agreements. Negotiates and documents terms and conditions.
Makes decisions on loans or makes recommendations at the highest lending limits. Recommends actions in keeping with own analysis of credit worthiness. Prudently services loans to protect CoBank interests and minimize loan losses.
Participates in planning activities for the group. Contributes expertise to the process on areas of responsibility.
Understands competition's terms and pricing and recommends changes on assigned portfolio to adjust to market.
Maintains expertise in a designated market/industry segment and keeps abreast of industry trends, technology, regulatory requirements and the competitive environment. Studies industrial, commercial, and financial situations relating to new or existing businesses as requested. Makes recommendations on financial and organization structure, locations, and other business-related issues. Provides additional guidance or advice to customers as appropriate.
May supervise staff. Supervisors set performance standards, manage workflow, grant authorities, evaluate performance, and recommend personnel actions within delegated authorities. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
Participates in special projects, and performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, finance or relevant discipline and
Ten (10) or more years of experience preferably in banking or financial services industry; or an appropriate combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or MBA preferred.
Management experience preferred.
Proven experience negotiating acceptable structures on large, complex credits.
Extensive knowledge of non-recourse and structured financing techniques.
Familiarity with inter-creditor agreements, syndications and loan participations.
Broad knowledge of industries served as well as products and services similar to those offered by CoBank (including: cash management, leasing, tax-exempt bonds).
Knowledge of technical standards in target industry.
Knowledge of regional and national regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated proficiency in cross-marketing.
Ability to negotiate acceptable structures on large and complex credits.
Excellent business acumen, and analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage projects and deliver on commitments within tight timeframes and competing priorities.
Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of associates, management, and internal customers across the bank, as well as external vendors and other stakeholders.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to deliver commitments while juggling multiple projects and priorities. Ability to work effectively under deadline pressures, and adjust quickly and effectively to changing priorities.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with demonstrated ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences. Excellent active listening skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
Availability for occasional work outside normal business hours.
Moderate to extensive travel required.
Compensation Information
Estimated Base Salary Range: $120,000-$185,000
Target short-term incentive opportunity: 30-35%
