We are seeking a Manufacturing Technician for Coherent's Plymouth, MI facility. In this role, you will execute the full build of industrial laser systems in a work cell manufacturing environment. This includes following detailed engineering schematics and other technical instructions to complete a wide variety electro-mechanical assembly projects and work-cell tasks. You will be expected to frequently work independently to execute assigned workstation builds, but must also coordinate with other systems assembly team members, regularly communicate status and issues to other production teams, such as engineering and purchasing, and periodically interact directly with customers and suppliers.

Responsibilities:


  • Working independently on complex systems subassemblies that require the use of drawings, sketches and schematics

  • Building new and prototype assemblies using verbal instructions and preliminary drawings; expected to work on special projects/tasks and participate with problem solving team efforts when required

  • Performing test functions and make mechanical adjustments; demonstrates assembly/test operations and work-cell activities to others

  • Performing planning and control-type transactions with the central processing system - using central production and inventory control software as well as pc software

  • Maintaining an organized work area and tool box.

  • May be assigned to work on special projects/tasks

Education and Work Experience:

Experience Required


  • Minimum of 2 years of previous work experience in production environment

  • Previous experience using hand tools and reading schematics/drawings

  • Basic PC skills including experience using Microsoft applications (word, excel, outlook) and previous exposure to manufacturing resource planning software

Desired Qualifications


  • Previous electro-mechanical assembly and work cell build experience.

  • Displays a strong aptitude and desire to learn laser and machine tool alignment, programming and commissioning.

  • Previous experience processing transactions, running reports and using advance functions of an MRP system

  • Previous experience working in an ISO certified facility and experience participating in Continuous Improvement initiatives, such as lean and 5S
