The Animal Aide works with the veterinary team to maintain a clean, compliant and well-stocked facility to support preclinical gene therapy research. This individual works directly with and assists the Veterinary Technician and Vivarium Manager in Vivarium and animal related needs.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Adhere to and strong understanding of standard operating procedures/guidelines regarding personnel and animal safety.


• Perform husbandry tasks for animals including cage change and health monitoring under IACUC standards.


• Perform physical environment housekeeping duties and production operations according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).


• Perform daily animal checks and treatments that promote animal welfare.


• Maintain cleanliness of facility.


• Maintain and performs proper documentation of activities.


• Assist in maintaining inventory of animal facility, including regular supply inventory.


• Performs related job duties as required.

Education and Skills Requirements:

• High School diploma required; Associate degree preferred with 0-2 years of relevant experience.


• Laboratory animal experience preferred.


• Ability to strictly adhere to laboratory methods and SOPs.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.


• Strong organizational skills and ability to follow verbal instructions.


• Ability to multi-task and prioritize shifting demands and workload.


• Passionate about animal welfare.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications; Word, Excel, Outlook systems.


• Must be able to work on rotating weekend/holiday schedule for vivarium coverage.
