The Animal Aide works with the veterinary team to maintain a clean, compliant and well-stocked facility to support preclinical gene therapy research. This individual works directly with and assists the Veterinary Technician and Vivarium Manager in Vivarium and animal related needs.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Adhere to and strong understanding of standard operating procedures/guidelines regarding personnel and animal safety.
Perform husbandry tasks for animals including cage change and health monitoring under IACUC standards.
Perform physical environment housekeeping duties and production operations according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Perform daily animal checks and treatments that promote animal welfare.
Maintain cleanliness of facility.
Maintain and performs proper documentation of activities.
Assist in maintaining inventory of animal facility, including regular supply inventory.
Performs related job duties as required.
Education and Skills Requirements:
High School diploma required; Associate degree preferred with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Laboratory animal experience preferred.
Ability to strictly adhere to laboratory methods and SOPs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and ability to follow verbal instructions.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize shifting demands and workload.
Passionate about animal welfare.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications; Word, Excel, Outlook systems.
Must be able to work on rotating weekend/holiday schedule for vivarium coverage.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
