If you are a Senior Engineer looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson Automation Solutions, Gulf Coast Engineering and Solutions Center, has an exciting opportunity for you!  Based in our Houston, TX or Baton Rouge, LA location you will work on a project teams with other professionals who enjoy taking on new challenges. You will make sense of complex, high quantity and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems. You will build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. You will relate openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people. 

We provide project management, engineering and design services, and supply of control systems hardware and software for control system projects in the oil and gas, refining, and petrochemical industries.

AS A SENIOR ENGINEER, YOU WILL: 


  • Be responsible for the automation scope on grassroots and control system upgrade projects

  • Work with product technologies such as DeltaV, DeltaV SIS, AMS, 3rd Party devices and interfaces, networking, cybersecurity, and instrumentation

  • Estimate engineering efforts, define and manage scope, and meet project schedules

  • Organize, plan, and lead other engineers in configuration efforts and write functional design specifications

  • Define and coordinate implementation of control strategies

  • Coordinate and plan the configuration of DeltaV control systems from Control Narratives and P&IDs, using IEC 61131 Function Blocks, Structured Text, and Sequential Function Charts

  • Plan and execute integration testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)

  • Plan and execute Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and start-up or cutover at customer plant sites 

  • Utilize Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and instrument databases to perform I/O assignments, generate control system specifications and develop system architectures of varied complexity without assistance.

  • Review power and grounding requirements and perform power and heat load calculations.

  • Lead the field survey of existing instrumentation/electrical equipment, instrument wiring, cable/conduit routing, control rooms, rack rooms and any related control systems/electrical items and reconciliation of field survey data.

  • Lead the design of cabinet/panel layout drawings, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, power/grounding design, and other related control system/electrical drawings

  • Plan and lead the hardware FAT of control systems; plan and assist with loop checks in the field, assist with cutover of existing instrumentation to new control systems.

  • Input and track project schedule and progress

  • Complete project designs to quality, budget and schedule

  • Use industry standards and trends to improve design practices and drive cost reductions

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • BS Engineering or Engineering Technology degree

  • 8+ years of process automation work associated with instrumentation and control systems/DCS/PLCs for projects

  • Experience engineering and implementing automation projects with Refining, Petrochemical, or Specialty Chemicals companies

  • Experience implementing both grassroots and control system modernization projects

  • Experience in site support of refining/chemical/petrochemical projects.

  • Experience in applying knowledge of Industry Codes and Standards (e.g. ISA, NEC).

  • Experience and ability to design and implement standard and/or complex engineering solutions, (i.e. Engineering, Infrastructure, Database Configuration, Construction) to successful completion

  • Must be able to monitor and report project status, progress, and budget for assigned area of responsibility.

  • Must be comfortable in plant sites, and possess the ability to negotiate staircases, ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, and recognize various refinery/chemical plant hazards 

  • Must be comfortable working with end users and/or EPCs

  • Proficiency in personal computer desktop applications including word processors, spreadsheets, presentation packages, databases, and other specialized applications.

  • Excellent technical knowledge of control systems in plants

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with attention to detail are essential

  • Excellent verbal & written communications skills

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Ability to build and sustain customer relationships, organize work, with attention to detail

  • Must convey a professional image with customers.

  • Ability to travel to client locations, as needed.

  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future

 PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:  


  • Experience in organizing and directing work for a medium team (4-8)

  • Experience in control systems modernization projects

  • Experience or knowledge of DeltaV control systems

  • Field walk-down experience in Refinery and Petrochemical plants

  • Experience in hot/cold cutover planning and implementation

  • Experience in delivering FEED studies

  • Ability to provide manhour estimates for engineering activities on projects

  • Ability to develop proposals based on RFQ data.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft networking and/or Cisco networks.

  • Experience with instrumentation including transmitters, analyzers, control valves, on-off valves
