Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.



Opportunity Overview:



As a Short-Term Assignment RN, you will be onboarded to Eskenazi Health to fill a temporary commitment; the area you are assigned to will be based on your recent nursing experience. This allows you the comfortability of working in a familiar environment while simultaneously learning more about the culture of Eskenazi Health and our opportunities. The Short-Term Assignment RN will have the opportunity to gain and continue to broaden their nursing practice through exposure to a variety of clinical specialties and offered at Eskenazi Health including: orthopedics, oncology, cardiology, palliative care, neurology, trauma, medicine, renal, urology, pulmonology, infectious disease, and more.


The Short-Term Assignment RN provides clinical care and uses coordination skills for every patient served. This includes understanding the patients served in the unit(s). Nursing care is delivered using the Eskenazi Health Model of Care-Synergy-the ability to coordinate with the patient and family/loved ones and other healthcare disciplines to ensure care is appropriate to meet patient care needs. Our nurses also proactively contribute to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with a special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County while modeling Eskenazi Health values.



What You Can Expect and Schedule:



The current openings are for Acuity Adaptable, Critical Care, NICU, and Family Beginnings.Each opening is a 36 hour per week position requiring a13-week commitment. Scheduled work days are varied based on each opening as are the shifts available.Based on your experience, you may be required to float to another area to meet hospital staffing needs; this includes but is not limited to MICU, SICU, IICU, Acuity Adaptable, Burn, Family Beginnings, or NICU. This position consists of 1-2 weeks of orientation which include hospital and unit-specific training. Most departments require 4 full shifts of unit-based training for the RN to practice independently.


Eskenazi Health is a Level 1 trauma and certified adult burn center with a level 3 NICU. Due to our high acuity, team members in this role can anticipate caring for and learning more about various populations in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Here at Eskenazi Health, we strive to offer nurse to patient ratios that allow for safe and effective care that stem from Evidence-Based Practice. The Short-Term Assignment RN can anticipate the following:


  • Acuity Adaptable - 1:4 ratio and 144 beds

  • Intermediate ICU - 1:3 ratio and 24 beds with 12 flexible beds

  • MICU and SICU - 1:2 ratio and 24 beds on each unit

  • Burn Unit - 1:2 or 1:3 ratio based on acuityand 15 beds

  • Level 3 NICU - 1:3 ratio based on acuity and 33 private beds

  • Family Beginnings - Ratios and Beds Vary Per Area

    • Antenatal - 1:2 to 1:4 with 15 beds

    • L&D - 1:1 to 1:2 with 14 beds

    • OR - 2 OB specific ORs with 5 PACU beds

    • Postpartum - 1:4 to 1:8 (couplet care) with 20 beds

    • OB Triage - 6 beds






Am I Qualified:



  • Minimum of 18 months nursing experience as an RN in assigned area preferred

  • Active Indiana RN license

  • Current BLS certification

  • Current ACLS certification depending on assigned area

  • Current PALS certification depending on assigned area
