This is a day position with rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and some nights.





General Description of the Job Class


The Emergency Services Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides direct patient care services and performs medical acts as either a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) under the supervision of the supervisory physician to patients requiring psychiatric evaluation and management in the Emergency Department. The APP performs physical and mental health exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership in the organization




Duties and Responsibilities of this Level



Perform behavioral health examination and evaluations to diagnose behavioral health problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care. Respond to behavioral health emergencies and manage all aspects of behavioral health care.



Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in the patient's record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.


Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures within their scope of practice and skillset; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.



Participate in clinical research projects; Train new personnel. Participate in teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting.




Minimum Qualifications



Education


Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.


Certified by the National Commission for the certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or equivalent



Preferred qualifications


Completion of a Psychiatric Mental Health Health Nurse Practitioner Program




Experience


No experience required. 3 years of RN experience strongly preferred.



Degrees, Licensures, Certifications



Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
