Production Assistant, Morning Rush - Newsy at The E.W. Scripps Company

Job Description:

Come join a dynamic new national media powerhouse focused on the over-the-air TV consumer. The Scripps Networks (a growing portfolio of entertainment and news networks) provides absorbing entertainment and objective, intelligent news as we use our own distribution platforms to serve this unduplicated national audience. We meet the audience where it is with the programs it wants.

The Production Assistant will be responsible for assisting with daily studio and field production.

What you'll do:


  • Work closely with editorial team to assist with all elements of production including video, graphics and guest and booking logistics


  • Assist in compiling research and fact checking


  • Write drafts of compelling interview descriptions, guest bios, and headlines for when assigned for segment information packets


  • Pitch compelling context-driven creative content


  • Assist on-air talent when assigned


  • Work with asset management systems when assigned


  • Mine and edit the best video and sound for assigned stories


What you'll bring:

Education & Experience/Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.  College degree preferred

Skills & Abilities


  • Highly organized and detail-oriented


  • Strong oral and written communication skills


  • Passion for topical news and key issues of the moment


  • Understanding of diverse video formats, from live programming to storytelling


  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills


  • Ability to collaborate under pressure with diverse staff, talent, and other on-air personalities


  • Must have strong research skills


  • Must be team-oriented, able to take direction from producers and editors, capable of meeting deadlines and functioning calmly in high-pressure situations, including breaking news


  • Desktop editing experience a plus; knowledge of working with archive sources, such as Getty Images and Associated Press is a plus


  • Must be able to work an extended schedule as the news cycle and deadlines required
