Tissue Culture Specialist

We are currently searching for a Tissue Culture Specialist to support the current needs for tissue culture and plant transformation which includes;

• Excellent aseptic technique for explant preparation and handling of tissue culture materials


• Excellent skills to accurately perform and assist in the development and deployment of plant transformation protocols


• Preparation of complex plant tissue culture media


• Basic plant growth/care in greenhouse


• Efficient and comprehensive communications among team members

Key responsibilities:

• Help and learn to isolate and maintain proper tissues from plants and prepare samples for the team. This activity requires excellent aseptic skills/experiences in clean bench and lab in general.


• Help and learn to produce transgenic plants. This activity requires excellent hands-on skills to accurately perform transformation protocols.


• Prepare tissue culture media. This activity requires ability to follow complex standard operating procedures accurately


• Maintain germplasm and grow/provide enough new healthy explants such as young leaves to the tissue culture team.This activity includes greenhouse activity


• Candidate should be able to perform as a cooperative team member and demonstrate clear and efficient communication skills with all members included. Bi-weekly and monthly activity summary will be presented among team members

Required Experience/Knowledge:

• Excellent aseptic skills in clean bench and lab is essential and required with 3-5 years related work experience


• Understanding and experiences in plant genetics plant physiology and basic chemistry are necessary


• Candidate should expect and dedicate 5+ hours of bench work in lab/clean bench daily basis


• Candidate will perform 1 hour of greenhouse work daily, which includes planting, plant care and watering


• Occasional lifting of 40-50 lbs. bags of soils is expected

Preferred Experience/Knowledge:

• Master's degree or bachelor's degree plus 3+ years experiences in plant biology or relevant fields are preferable


• Specific project-based experiences in plant genetics, tissue culture and experience with monocot and dicot plant transformation systems would be highly preferable
