Who We Are Looking For:

We are seeking a motivated Structural Engineer to join our structural engineering group. The successful candidate will be joining an established, respected, and growing team providing a range of structural engineering services to our practices across the firm. This position will support projects of varying degrees of complexity and require interaction with multi-disciplinary teams in the industrial, water, wastewater, municipal, design-build, construction, and plant operations service areas; and provide the opportunity to collaborate with employees from Woodard & Curran offices nationwide. This position level is flexible based on experience and qualifications of the candidate. New graduates and candidates with related structural engineering experience ranging from 0 to 2 years of experience are encouraged to apply for this position.  

What You Will Be Doing At Woodard & Curran:

This position includes preparation and checking of structural analysis, design computations, structural software modeling, and contract documents (drawings and specifications) for various industrial, water, wastewater, utility, and infrastructure projects. Structural design components include reinforced concrete, structural steel, reinforced masonry, timber framing and roof trusses, tanks and buildings. Duties also include the following:  reviewing contractor submittals and shop drawings for projects described above; on-site field inspection of construction projects relating to structural and other engineering disciplines; assisting senior engineers in technical evaluations of materials and products and in-field investigations of existing structures, including preparation of reports; assisting senior designers and drafters in the preparation of contract drawings; some drafting and coordination with CAD designers.

What You Will Need To Succeed:


  • BS degree required in Structural Engineering or Civil with Structural concentration; MS preferred.

  • EIT (passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam) required; or commitment from new graduates to take the FE exam.

  • 0 to 2 years of relevant experience with structural analysis and design.

  • Future Licensed Professional Engineer registration is a career development expectation.

  • Must have completed coursework in design of reinforced concrete and structural steel.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills are a must.

  • Strong technical writing skills.

  • First-hand knowledge of current Building Code(s) and the design of new structures, including reinforced concrete, steel and timber design methods.

  • On-site field exposure to construction-related work is a plus.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Experience with MathCAD and STAAD is a plus.

  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is a plus.
