Job Description:

Position Information: Provides assistance to a research staff by collecting and analyzing data, keeping records, conducting literature and technical research, preparing reports, and may supervise personnel. Located in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and the Center for Geroscience and Healthy Brain Aging, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. The applicant will work on mechanisms of pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias using rodent models, with a specific focus on cerebrovascular pathways of AD, the role of pathogenic tau, and the role of senescence among other mechanisms of aging.
 
Essential Duties: 



  1. Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects. 



  2. Conducts analyses of data. 



  3. Interprets, draws conclusions, and discusses with principal investigator. 



  4. Presents research material to fellow researchers and colleagues. 



  5. Keeps record of information obtained during research. May include a database of information or hard files. 



  6. Conducts research of the literature. 



  7. Independently conducts technical research. 



  8. Prepares various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication. 



  9. Constructs tests or assists in the construction of tests. 



  10. Collaborates with other researchers.



  11. May supervise a staff of research technicians and/or research assistants. Delegates tasks and oversees work.



  12. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.


Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, or related field
 
Experience: 24 months research laboratory experience
 
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months equivalent experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 72 months research assistant/technician experience
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • Working knowledge of how to handle biohazardous materials or chemicals following Federal, State, and University regulations and guidelines



  • Detail oriented



  • Ability to analyze data and keep records



  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing



  • Ability to supervise research technicians or assistants
