This position is directly responsible for driving strategic business improvement projects to reduce operating costs, enable organizational efficiency and assist with waste reduction activities. The Field Operations Manager will work closely with senior management to implement a variety of initiatives including capital optimization/reduction projects. Must have strong experience in applying lean manufacturing and six sigma methodology in a transactional, operations, and warehousing and distribution environment. Ability to lead cross functional teams and drive results in a fast paced office environment is critical for this position. Must be able to prioritize and lead projects with minimal direct supervision.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Lead a team of Field Operations professionals.

  • Partner with Distributor leadership to achieve operational excellence.  Detect trends and the ‘pulse’ of distributor personnel and customers.  Collaborate with Distributor and Corporate functional leaders to minimize market place risk and facilitate sales growth while optimizing assets, expenses, and processes.

  • Leads selected project and program teams as assigned.  Drive capital optimization/reduction initiatives and other change.

  • Provide/support training, facilitation, and hands-on support to drive business transformation activities and ensure long term adoption.

  • Collect and analyze information to identify areas for improvement and improve the performance of the department.

  • Identify and share best practices among distributors.

Expected Areas of Competence


  • In-depth knowledge and application of Lean/Six Sigma Applications.

  • Logistics operations, logistics experience.

  • Broad knowledge and experience with project management tools and methods.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coach the implementation of improvement through cross-functional teams.

  • Able to take action in solving problems and making decisions while exhibiting sound judgment.

  • Established track record of sound cross-functional actions and decisions impacting the business process and company results.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

  • Ability to clearly present information, influence or persuade others through oral presentations. Must be able emit a level of confidence and expertise to effectively train other employees at multiple sites in a broad range of topics.

  • Ability to establish relationships quickly with a broad range of constituents. Must possess a collaborative style to work effectively throughout the organization.  

  • Able to influence actions and opinions of others in a desired direction, to exhibit judgment in leading others.

  • Strong motivator with intuitive work style to develop novel solutions.

  • Must be proficient in MS Office Applications, ERP systems, and Web-based applications.

Education/Experience Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with preference  given to  Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, IT or other technical degree.

  • 6 or more years of experience in driving continuous improvement activities.

  • Experience working in or with logistics, supply chain function preferred.

  • Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred.

  • Experience managing a team.

Travel Requirements


  • Up to 50%
