About this Opportunity

In this role, you'll lead the global center of excellence for workplace strategy and design. You will have accountability for the offer and practices that support the evolution of our clients' workplaces. This position requires a seasoned, strategic leader who will provoke new thinking about workplace strategy and design. You will lead and develop a team of distributed talent to advance and apply new ideas. As the resident expert of this core competency, speaking engagements and networking is essential. You'll be a member of the Global Insights leadership team.

What You'll Do

You'll have opportunities to speak up, solve problems, lead others, and be an owner every day as someone who . . .


  • Establishes the strategy, objectives, and performance metrics for deploying the company's Workplace Strategy and Design capabilities for meaningful client impact.



  • Develops and delivers programs, services, tools, and resources for sellers to leverage in targeted client engagements.



  • Partners to integrate with Global Research and Insights, Design Strategy, Global Product Application, and others critical to the amplification of Herman Miller's point of view.



  • Serves as a resident expert on Workplace Strategy and Design for the communications team to leverage in conversations about the many emerging workplace dynamics.



  • Benchmarks global Workplace Strategy and Design practices; continually assesses/audits the Workplace Strategy and Design function and related processes.



  • Coaches, mentors and develops leaders; ensures the organization is identifying and grooming next-level leaders; leading in succession planning activities for functional area. Leads the Applied Insight Hub, as a vehicle to build the foundation that expresses Workplace Strategy and Design insights for leverage by global spokes.



  • Ensure an organizational structure that supports the evolving needs of the business.

You might be just who we're looking for if you have . . .


  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Workplace Strategy or related discipline or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred.



  • 10-15 years of professional experience in a Contract Design or Workplace Strategy function with 5 years of demonstrated industry experience.



  • 5-8 years of managerial experience and cross-functional team leadership.



  • Proven ability to engage with and share insights and information with audiences through speaking, social media, writing, mainstream media, etc.



  • Able to form the bigger picture and determine where Herman Miller LivingOffice can fit into consumers' needs and how to demonstrate that value or insight to a customer.



  • Ability to motivate and influence a wide variety of people to look at and do things differently.



  • Strong understanding of the contract furniture market and distribution channel preferred.



  • Excellent communications skills, including listening, leading, and interpersonal coaching and mentoring.



  • Proven analytical skills in market analysis, problem-solving and project management.



  • Demonstrated leadership skills with values in alignment with corporate values.



  • Proven ability to utilize all office automation tools used in the HMI office environment.



  • Must demonstrate the potential for additional leadership responsibilities and future growth.



  • Must be able to travel up to 30% of work schedule in support of business objectives.



  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
