Position Overview

Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of quarry and asphalt production and plant workers

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following essential functions satisfactorily:


  • Act as the site safety leader and ensure that all functions of employees and equipment are performed in a safe manner and in compliance with company and regulatory policies.

  • Enforce operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance

  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in production.

  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments

  • Coordinate asphalt plant activities.  Communicate daily with Asphalt Operations Manager to determine workload and to facilitate scheduling of liquids, aggregate and plant startup.

  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production and performance goals.

  • Inspect materials, products or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions

  • Observe work and monitor gauges, dials and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.

  • Conduct employee training in equipment operations, work and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers

  • Interpret specifications, job orders, and company policies and procedures for employees

  • Keep records of employees’ attendance and hours worked

  • Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, either directly or indirectly, in a timely and effective manner.

  • Study and follow all applicable regulations affecting asphalt plant production, safety environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance of such regulations; and ensure compliance with all regulations and permit conditions.

  • Scanning, indexing, sorting, and data entry of supplier invoices

  • Utilize basic computer skills to input daily production, labor, and equipment data

  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production performance.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience


  • College Degree in a complementary program or relevant Quarry industry experience.

  • Previous management experience a plus

  • Leadership training a plus

  • Valid state driver’s license

Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Developed analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Substantial interpersonal skills

  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Priority emphasis and strong time management skills

  • Travel may be required

  • Basic computer and mobile device skills

Physical Requirements

This position requires the employee to frequently stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, climb or balance. The employee is required to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to lift and/or move 50 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
