Job Description:

New England Biolabs (NEB) is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Production Engineer in laboratories equipped with cutting edge technologies. The successful candidate will support liquid chromatography systems and associated hardware in a fast paced and dynamic environment.  NEB has a strong environmental focus and relies on the cooperative interaction of a motivated workforce for its success.  NEB headquarters are located in a beautiful estate setting, LEED certified building north of Boston.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Pack and qualify a wide array of different size and types of chromatography columns, from lab scale to pilot scale


  • Troubleshoot and maintain Cytiva AKTA purification and filtration systems at multiple sites


  • Write, test, and deploy Unicorn programs for all AKTA platforms as well as train users


  • General lab instrument and software troubleshooting


  • Assist users with purification issues relating to runs, hardware, columns, and programing


  • Work closely with IT and Facilities to support equipment needs


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in biological or engineering related discipline


  • Minimum of 2 years relevant professional experience


  • Exceptional attention to detail and passion for problem solving with a developed sense of ownership and responsibility.


  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electronic, software/computer systems and fluid handling systems


  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written)


  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to multitask


  • Strong Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 and basic networking


  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Chromatography column packing and qualification.


  • Hands on experience with Cytiva Unicorn software


  • Hands on experience with downstream processing equipment and protocols including sanitization, troubleshooting, and manufacturing operations


  • Working knowledge of upstream/downstream processing equipment and technologies a plus


  • Knowledge of SAP is preferred
