Job Description:

TITLE: Senior Accountant


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager, Accounting Services


BASIC FUNCTIONS:


Process and manage state sales tax and fixed assets accounting functions. Analyze and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and resolve all variances. Process miscellaneous daily cash and other accounting duties as assigned.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Prepare and file returns for sales and use tax in multiple states within established timelines, including local jurisdictions.

2. Manage state sales taxes including filings, special event permits, reports, and preparation of responses to sales and use tax notices when required. Serve as primary liaison with the outsourced sales tax compliance vendor.

3. Maintain state sales tax exemption database and taxable products database within sales tax software.

4. Serve as accounting department expert regarding taxable products maintained in sales management system, including the flow of transactions between the sales management system and the taxation software.

5. Process accounting transactions of all fixed assets and leases (both capital and operating), including depreciation. Examine budget details for any potential fixed asset invoices.

6. Prepare a daily cash reconciliation and market valuation report.

7. Process outgoing bank wires and ensure compliance with AAP policies and procedures.

8. Prepare monthly journal entries, allocations, and internal sales analysis and reclassification entries.

9. Prepare assigned monthly reconciliations and resolve variances.

10. Prepare all filings for unclaimed property.

11. Prepare assigned audit work papers.

12. Record returned checks, prepare journal entries, reverse payments, and distribute information to appropriate departments.

13. Analyze and reconcile deferred revenue and expenses.

14. Research technical tax issues as needed.

15. Perform ad-hoc account analysis as requested from outside departments.

16. Serve as the back-up for short term investments maintenance and charitable registration filings.

17. Perform all other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION:


Bachelor's degree in accounting required.


EXPERIENCE:


Two to three years' related accounting experience required, including some sales tax return preparation.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:


Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration, organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and various accounting and sales tax software systems required; experience with Vertex sales and use tax software and Acumatica financial software preferred. Must be able to maintain a high level of accuracy, secure confidential information, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, take initiative, work both independently, and as part of a team, and be able to research technical tax issues and analyze and interpret data. Some evening and weekend work may be required, particularly around month and year-end close.
