Position Summary

This position serves as the Chief Financial Manager to the Vice President Business Unit Sales, focused on driving sales, operating profit and share growth across all retailer customer for assigned Business Unit.  This position supports customer development organizational goals through the development and execution of effective and efficient business plans, detailed financial analysis involving trade investments and gap closing opportunities, and robust control and compliance discipline.  

Organization: People Responsibilities/reporting line/partnerships:

The Sales Strategy Finance Manager reports directly to the Director, Customer Development and is the senior financial advisor to the Vice President, BU Sales.  Incumbent will also work with Customer Development Associate Directors, Sales and Demand Planning, Brand and Customer finance managers, and Revenue Management to develop and drive improved trade investment and gap management choices.   

This position provides financial leadership and direction to the Business Unit Sales team to support the achievement of business results by completing effective business plans, implementing strategic and tactical business initiatives, and proactively pursuing opportunities to close gaps to results or mitigating material business risks.  A principal activity of this position is to ensure that business and financial planning and control processes meet enterprise requirements and plans and programs are accurately presented and evaluated.

Key Responsibilities

Financial and strategic advisor to the VP BU Sales and BU Sales Team - Provide financial advice and counsel on all pertinent business matters by proactively supplying ongoing, timely, and meaningful financial analysis, including but not limited to business results, trade investment choices, and gap management programs. Deliver value to the organization with expert financial analysis, business consulting services and management of highly effective business planning and internal control processes. Foster a highly productive energetic environment in which smart risk taking and bias towards action is encouraged and rewarded.  Provide management oversight and control to ensure trade spending guidelines are met and that trade investment is efficient and effective. Demonstrate a commitment to delivering breakthrough value by proactively presenting ideas to generate incremental and profitable sales. Drive action and inspire change across functions through strong collaboration and communication, particularly with Brand Finance, BU Sales Analysts, Revenue Management and Customer Finance. Ensure application of efficient and effective financial and operating controls within the Corporation.  Promote sound internal control programs and support the Corporation's requirement for strong central financial control by reporting, to the Director of Finance – Customer Development, whenever Corporate Financial Policies or instructions are not being followed or appear inappropriate, inadequate or out-of-date.

Basic Qualifications


  • BS Finance or related field

  • Minimum of 6-8 years proven and progressive experience in corporate finance and / or business analysis 

  • Previous P&L responsibility and Consumer Business experience along with a thorough understanding of forecasting techniques is required

  • Strong knowledge of sales fundamentals and the purpose of trade investments 

  • Strong business judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strategic thinker who is willing to operate outside their comfort zone and has the courage to challenge the status quo

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to drive change cross-functionally

  • Exceptional ability to influence without authority

  • Passion to be an integral partner to the business.  Role and environment requires a person that will be an active member of the leadership team
