Position Purpose
The Technician Assistant plays an integral role in the advanced Veterinary care provided by Central Texas Veterinary Emergency Hospital. This role goes in hand with our purpose statement of enhancing the quality of life for patients.
Responsibilities / Duties /Functions / Tasks
Restrain animals for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
Assist Technician with animals.
Assists in taking radiographs.
Open rooms to be used for surgery.
Setup up surgery rooms and clean them after procedures.
Set up wet sink for lacerations and minor procedures and clean after procedures.
Clean, wrap and sterilize instruments, surgical packs, gowns, and drapes.
Knowledge of names and locations of all instruments and equipment used in surgery.
Bathe animals.
Perform nail trims.
Feed and walk patients as needed.
Prepare prescriptions as ordered by the Doctor.
Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas.
Perform Kennel duties as required, including sweeping, mopping and laundry.
Perform inventory and restocking duties as required.
Work Effort
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, talk, and listen; may require extended periods of time on feet. Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel or reach with hands and arms. Required to lift up to forty pounds. Employees will be expected to acquire assistance with lifting or carrying animals or materials over forty pounds.
Work Requirements
Possible exposure to gas sterilization using ethylene oxide
Hazards associated with infected animals, control substances and possible exposure to contagious diseases
Exposure to unpleasant odors and noises
Exposure to aggressive patients, bites, scratches and animals waste
Exposure to chemotherapeutic agents/ waste
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Some Veterinary experience preferred but not required. Basic customer service skills required. Basic computer skills necessary.
