POSITION INFORMATION:  Plans, directs, or coordinates OB/GYN research projects, directs the activities of workers engaged in OB/GYN research projects to ensure compliance with protocols and overall clinical objectives, evaluates and analyses clinical data.  Under general supervision, performs professional nursing duties for OB/GYN research such as physician assistance, screening, sample collection, information gathering, patient follow-up, data collection, medication collection, patient education, and patient instruction.  Tasks require a high level of organizational skills and the exercise of discretion and ability to ask the right questions to determine proper course of action while following established standards and research protocols.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. 
   Patient Recruitment and Scheduling.  Identifies, recruits, and schedules patients who may be eligible to participate in OB/GYN clinical research trials.  
   
   


2. 
   Assessment.  Performs the initial assessment of potential patient participants, including but not limited to taking detailed clinical history, performing physical exam, and completing patient data forms.
   
   


3. 
   Physician Assistance.  Assists physician during the examination as needed.  Ensures that all information is available to the physician. Under direction of physician or other medical personnel, administers medication to patients.
   
   


4. 
   Information Distribution.  Provides potential patient participants with study information.  Obtains informed consent form. 
   
   


5. 
   Information Gathering.  Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc. Collects samples from patients including blood, urine, etc.  Prepares samples for analysis or shipment.  Collects all laboratory reports, data, and records.  Conducts research tests according to protocols.
   
   


6. 
   Data Management.  Responsible for data management and data analysis.  Ensures data entry is accurate and completed in a timely manner. 
   
   


7. 
   Patient Preparation/Follow Up.  Prepares patient for examination by having charts ready, etc. Answers routine questions from patients, family, etc. Provides educational information to patients, family, etc. Counsels patients and family about side effects of medication, therapy, etc. 
   
   


8. 
   Collaboration.  Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient quality patient care and acts as the initial clinical research resource liaison between physicians, nurses and laboratory personnel. 
   
   


9. 
   Meeting Attendance.  May attend various meetings pertaining to OB/GYN clinical research.  May present information at the meeting.
   
   


10. 
    As Needed.  Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
    
    

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing




 
Experience:  12 months professional nursing (RN) experience 
 
Certifications/ Licenses:  Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Oklahoma, BLS, and CPR certification
 
Equivalent/ Substitution:  Will accept an Associate's Degree in Nursing and 24 months professional nursing (RN) experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 36 months experience
