Overview

Our Oakland, CA location hosts a busy Service department. We are looking for an experienced full-time Diesel Technician to join our team. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00AM - 4:00PM.

We offer in-house advanced-training opportunities - we are the only dealership in North America that is able to conduct all Mack/Volvo training up to the master tech certification within our in house Training Centers. We cover travel costs for our technicians to attend training and want to invest in your growth.

Responsibilities

    Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures

  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major components

  • Performs diagnostics using computers and follows manufacurer's guidelines

  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems

  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards

  • Follows diagnostic troubleshooting instructions; diagnose breakdowns; performing preventive maintenance; determining needed parts for repairs

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications

  • Enhances service department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

Qualifications


  • Must have own hand tools and proficient in use of all tools of trade

  • 3-5 Years' experience in Class 8 or heavy duty shop

  • CDL preferred but not required

  • Valid driver's license and able to meet insurance requirements

  • Certifications in Volvo/Mack, Cat, Cummins, Detroit, Paccar International a plus but not required

  • Demonstrated proficiency in identifying parts and components of diesel truck engines, transmissions, and braking mechanisms; proven ability to disassemble, work on, and reassemble diesel truck parts and machinery; ability to identify mechanical and electronic problems, make repairs, and offer a proper maintenance strategy.

  • Basic computer skills to input vehicle maintenance records and updates and diagnose equipment

  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job in safe and alert manner (job requires frequent lifting/moving, climbing, stooping, kneeling, seeing, grasping, etc.)

  • Ability to maintain predictable and reliable attendance and work in a safe and alert manner

  • Valid driver's license and able to meet insurance requirements
