Position Overview

Provides technical support responsibility for personal computers (hardware and software) primarily installed at Ash Grove corporate offices, but also at all plant, terminal and sales office locations. In addition, provides Network Administration services, as directed by the Network Manager, for Windows Server, Active Directory and Exchange based LAN's deployed at the corporate office in Overland Park, as well as any plant location. Also assists in problem diagnosis and management of the Wide-Area-Network (WAN) facilities that link our offices and plants. Finally, provide direct supervision and task oversight to contract technicians who are occasionally used for special projects. Works under minimal supervision on routine duties involving specified standard practices. Refers more technically complex problems and questionable items to management for direction.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Supports the installation and maintenance of corporate, plant or sales office local area networks, personal computers and network-based printer devices, including the designation of hardware/software standards for local area network and personal computers environments.


• Provides Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory administration oversight to the corporate wired and wireless networks, as directed by supervisor. Assists and provides guidance to designated Plant personnel in the everyday administration and troubleshooting support for Plant LAN facilities, servers, PC’s, printers, etc.


• Provides direct supervision and task oversight to contract technologists engaged occasionally to assist with special projects.


• Provides training to plant automation engineers and to corporate PC Support Specialists in the use of PC hardware and software, LAN administration principles, and wireless networks.


• Provides technical support and software administration for the Cisco I.P. Telephony system installed at corporate.  In addition, provide secondary technical support to IPT systems installed at select plants (eg Durkee)


• Serves as principal contact with Dell, HP, Cisco and other key vendors on hardware ordering and support issues. Upon request, prepares equipment configuration and pricing for server, desktop, and laptop computers ordered thru capital purchasing procedures at corporate.


• Performs complex problem diagnosis and repair procedures on all corporate/plant LAN and personal computer hardware.  Assists the Network Manager, designated plant personnel and telecommunications vendors in the diagnosis and correction of WAN-specific problems.


• Installs personal computer and network equipment at various locations as needed. Diagnoses and repairs performance problems associated with all such equipment.

Experience

• 3 or more years experience in Windows server, Microsoft-based LAN administration experience, with Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory environments supporting the Microsoft Office suite required.


• 3 or more years experience in Dell servers, desktop and laptop computers, as well as Dell technical support procedures required.


• Experience in administration and technical support experience with Cisco AVVID I.P. Telephony systems, Call Manager and Unified Messaging required.

Education

• Associate's Degree in data processing or completion of a computer science trade school program.
