Marine Structural Engineer - Diver at Moffatt & Nichol

Location: Walnut Creek, California





Job Description:

As an Engineer Diver, you will be working with a professional engineering dive team that provides consulting services to clients. Occasional travel to other areas throughout the U.S. will also be required. The principal function of this position is to be part of a team that evaluates marine structures and bridges through above and underwater engineering inspections, follow-on report preparation and development of structural repair designs.

Duties and responsibilities


  • Supervises and conducts site investigations

  • Ensure that the scope of work is fulfilled, and that the contracted deliverable goes out on schedule and as budgeted

  • Works collaboratively with all members of the dive group

  • Analyzes deteriorated components, assess remaining capacities

  • Partners with other professionals and departments to gather information for projects

  • Prepares plans, designs, calculations and cost estimatesand supporting documentation

  • Performs other duties as required

  • Excellent technical writing skills for the preparation and review of inspection reports, proposals, specs, etc.

  • Experience with management of various projects including planning, development, standardization and budgeting

  • Works collaboratively with all members of the inspection team and of other engineering disciplines

  • Assists in business development activities such as proposals and cost estimates for the Inspection & Rehabilitation Discipline in the Western Region

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required, Master's degree preferred

  • PE registration required

  • ADCI or equivalent Dive Certification required

  • Minimum 10+ years previous experience in dive inspection with engineering consulting firm; required

  • NHI/NBIS bridge inspection qualifications a plus

  • Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) certification in the Port Engineering category preferred

  • Ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team, with strong attention to detail

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Good planning, organizational and time management skills

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

  • Must have current US Passport and be able to obtain a RAPIDGate credential allowing access to Military installations and maintain them in good standing

  • Due to client requirements, selected candidate must consent to and a pass a pre-employment (post offer) drug screening

  • Due to client requirements, selected candidate must show proof of U.S. citizenship as well disclose any dual citizenship status. A federal background check will be conducted

  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions

This role requires diving in waters, working in office space, walking on unstable ground, and other exposure to extreme elements.
