Job Summary

The Vice President of Product Strategy leads and orchestrates the crafting of product and portfolio strategy for Equinix as it builds its portfolio of software-driven infrastructure services.  This role reports to the Chief Product Officer and is a peer to leaders of product management, marketing, architecture, engineering and operations.  The role will focus on programmatically developing, socializing, articulating and advancing a clear platform strategy for Equinix, and will also be responsible for conducting ad hoc strategic projects, assessments and engagements as needed.  This leader has the right combination of industry/market context, strategic framework and analytics skills, and depth in product software engineering domains to lead cross functional strategy work. 

This role will span both assessment of strategic market investment opportunities as well as entry options across build, buy or partner pursuits covering both near and longer term horizons.  He/she leads a small group of strategy professionals together with an insights and analytics team to provide business insights for the Product organization, propelling and advancing product trends content in order to provide data and insights useful across a variety of forums: public earnings, board, e-staff, functions, products and regions.

We are looking for candidates who think creatively about strategy, are skilled in technology and market research and analysis, and excel in translating between technical and business/commercial domains.  The role partners closely with Corporate Strategy as an extended member of that team, and involves deep exposure to Equinix executive management globally.  This role is highly cross-functional and requires collaboration and co-creation with leadership across the business.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead a strategy agenda that advances the roadmap for Platform Equinix -- investigate and deliver fact-based points of view on new market opportunities, product portfolio expansion, partnership or acquisition candidates in the context of competitive landscape and company assets and capabilities




• Strategically evaluate and drive alignment and decision making around new opportunities working in collaboration across product organization, other company functions and directly with executive leadership




• Conduct both primary and secondary research with customers, partners, analysts and other subject matter experts to develop/validate deep understanding of evolving enterprise needs




• Develop and present articulate and impactful research and strategy recommendations to company leadership




• Continually communicate the product strategy across functions and levels in the company and to external constituencies such as industry analysts and media




• Stay current with industry trends as well as competitive moves and proactively identify potential disruptions




• Represent Product in creating a technology capability M&A agenda and support due diligence from product and customer point of view




• Lead and manage a data-driven product insights and analytics practice delivering actionable analysis to stakeholders across the company




• Support and build a team of approximately 5-7 strategy and analytics professionals




• Integrate Product strategy into overall Corporate Strategy

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience at a high growth tech company or technology-focused enterprise in product management, strategy, business operations or at a top management consulting company with experience leading product and market strategy engagements




• Functional knowledge across Product design, management and engineering and experience translating this to enterprise customer needs




• Demonstrated understanding of cloud, networking, and/or IT services landscape and technology domains




• Executive presence and demonstrated success building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and influencing and collaborating in cross-functional environments




• Experience in managing and using data, analytics and reporting to enable product insights and make business decisions




• Demonstrated experience building a thriving culture aligned to Equinix values.




• BS/BA required; MBA or relevant advanced degree is desirable
