JOB TITLE: Director- Engineering

DEPARTMENT:  Engineering

JOB SUMMARY

A Director responsible for developing the Operational Excellence culture, delivery of capital programs, new manufacturing technologies, new product introductions/ transfers and range extensions. A focus on Continuous improvement that delivers cost reduction and quality improvements to ensure the manufacturing site remain a site of choice. Working with the Senior Leadership Team (SMT) and the business units, develop and implement long term strategies and tactics to meet the overall site objectives. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Lead the site’s Operational Excellence strategy working with senior leadership team and their functional leaders.

  • Work on the long-term strategy and implementation roadmap as part of the site’s annual planning process.

  • Work with Business Unit leaders and Functional Managers to ensure high levels of employee engagement, prioritize opportunities supporting site objectives, align resources, and commission improvement project teams.

  • Collaborate with Operational Excellence leaders at other sites to standardize and improve capabilities across CooperVision.

  • Directs the process engineering activities and manages the successful implementation of new manufacturing technology, new product introductions/ transfers, and range extensions to deliver expected performance metrics.

  • Liaise with SMT and Business unit leads to identify business opportunities underpinned with a sound business case

  • Maintains control of the capital programs within the site and works closely with the financial manager to ensure accuracy and spend control to meet budget and forecast.

  • Develop, motivate and manage staff to ensure optimal performance is achieved.

  • Manage resources, including hiring, personal development and appraisals, to ensure that there are sufficient technical resources of the right quality to be able to deliver the planned projects.

  • Work closely with SMT and Business unit leads to ensure that technical resources are managed onto and off projects as necessary to ensure timely delivery.

  • Responsible for Building Engineering, maintains oversight of all engineering activities related to the building’s electro-mechanical systems.  

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Experience and ability to train, coach and develop organizational capabilities in Operational Excellence.

  • Demonstrated successes in the application of Lean Principles in the manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated capability in problem solving and variation reduction through Six Sigma DMAIC and CI methodologies

  • Project Management skills in planning, risk management, execution, and implementation experience in the manufacturing environment.

  • Strong leadership qualities with proven ability to lead and influence without direct authority.

  • Enjoys working with all levels of the organization from the shop floor to top leadership.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Independently manages multiple complex projects while meeting project requirements.

  • Must be able to give clear direction, communicate expectations and provide feedback and performance evaluation to all levels of personnel.

  • Knowledge and experience with Current Good Manufacturing Principles (CGMP), ISO 13485, Lean Manufacturing, and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Technical experience in Assembly/Test Automation, Injection Molding, Tooling and/or Facility Infrastructure preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Normal office environment. Sedentary to light physical effort necessary to perform the job. 

  • There will be extended periods of sitting and using a computer. 

  • May be required to travel as necessary.

EDUCATION


  • Master’s Degree (M.S.) and 15 years’ experience, or bachelor’s degree (B.S.) and 20 years’ experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in relevant engineering field. 

EXPERIENCE


  • Experience in managing technical organizations. 

  • Must have a proven track record of process improvements and successful project implementation
