Job Description:


Work with customers, business analysts, and team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions that are aligned with business and IT strategies and comply with the organization's architectural standards. Involved in all phases of the full systems life cycle. Responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing, maintaining and supporting applications and systems software. Make recommendations towards the development of new code or reuse of existing code. May participate in component and data architecture design, performance monitoring, product evaluation and buy vs. build recommendations.



  • Analysis/Design: Analyze the complex business requirements and feasibility studies for projects of significant scope and complexity. Analyze environmental requirements, conversion requirements and file structures between systems. Design data models. Evaluates new products and product upgrades. Develop prototypes where appropriate. Assist in evaluation of new platforms and technologies to satisfy business requirements. Interpret business requirements and prepares system design documents for projects. Design data integrity requirements and environmental requirements. Develop program specifications and flowcharts, (dataflows, jobflows, etc.), for complex programs, screens, files and reports. Design security requirements for systems with cross-departmental access.

  • Coding: Develop and maintains complex code utilizing structured programming techniques. Provide thorough internal program documentation. Use available utilities to simplify tasks. Develop file management modules, creating and maintaining tables using new technologies where appropriate. Apply object oriented programming principles to design and development efforts in an effort to re-use existing code. Conduct and participates in code walkthroughs.

  • Testing: Develop and coordinate system and system integration test plans. Develop system and system integration test data. Perform and coordinate system, system integration and stress tests for large size projects within and across various systems and platforms for large size projects. Assists quality assurance testing teams.

  • Communication: Provide input to peers, management and customers for recommendations and alternate solutions and/or improvements. Convey and insure the understanding of technical strategies and vision to project participants. Convey problems, solutions, and updates on projects and their status to their peers, customers and management. Contribute information for cost justification of new purchases to management. Provide feedback on team performance against established assignments. Participate in hiring process, conducts technical interviews and contributes to overall evaluation of candidates.

  • Documentation: Prepare design documentation for the software projects assigned. Ensure that the scope and intent of the design architecture is clearly reflected and accounted for in the supporting documentation for the Developers. May assist in writing on-line help manuals, user manuals, operations documentation and FAQs for specific software projects.

  • Mentoring: Take responsibility for personal and team technical and professional growth. May assist new hires with simple and complex department procedures, environment, tools, utilities and standards. Serve as a resource and provides on-the-job training and advice on tasks to be accomplished by less knowledgeable or newer associates. Provide technical assistance and follow through to team members.

  • Planning/Process Management: Prepare time estimates for all phases of technical projects. Function as technical leader on appropriate projects throughout the full project lifecycle. Develop and maintains plans for large size projects. Evaluate estimates against actual results. Recommend improvements in technical processes. Actively participates in post-implementation reviews.
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

Position Specific Details:

  • Position requires RPG Developer with 5-7+ years of development experience. This position requires development knowledge specifically related to an AS/400 IBM iSeries environment. Experience with the following are a must: RPGLE (subfile processing, parameters, subroutines, procedures, data areas, data structures, conditions, loops, error handling, and exception processing), CLP, DDS, SDA
  • Desirable skills: SQL, EDI, XML, RPG Free, embedded SQL, FTP, web services, IFS, label/bar-code generation, C, Java, VBA
  • Familiarity with the following is a plus: LogisticsPRO, Jennifer by Lucas Systems (Voice Software), automated conveyors, Hawkeye, Turnover, RDP (IBM Rational Developer), Inovis Trusted Link EDI software, BizManager, SEQUEL ViewPoint, Microsoft Office, warehousing, transportation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in discipline related to functional work or role with 5-7 years of relevant work experience OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the information technology environment/infrastructure and be able to identify and resolve complex challenges associated with the work. Must be able to understand complex interrelated information needs across multiple information technology platforms.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the full range of customer information/data management systems and related processes and protocols. Able to resolve the difficult and complex challenges associated with the work performed.
  • Must be able to effectively analyze and solve the
    more difficult and complex work related problems by using past
    experience, research, and best practice information. Able to lead feasibility studies that produce useful recommendations.
  • Requires excellent communication skills with ability to state messages in a clear manner by using language that is easy for others to understand. Able to explain programs policies and procedures in language that is understood by others.
  • Must be able to modify communication style both formal and informal to match the appropriate level of the audience targeted. Requires strong understanding of the impact of a message on the organization or customer. Able to write with the clarity and precision necessary for the work being performed.

Start Rate: $75,000 commensurate with experience
