Position Description:
The Product Engineer will be accountable to actively lead and manage all Specialty Powders and Alloys product development activities at the Eighty Four, PA facility and to deliver results consistent with customer requirements and the location business plan. Accountable for technology and product development activities which ensure worker safety, compliance with applicable environmental regulations and integrate with the company quality systems. Responsible for improving and streamlining our manufacturing processes, product improvements and new product development.

• Perform all duties following the divisions best in class safety practices.

• Direct customer interface for all technical concerns including powder properties shipped to the customer and technical resource for customer processing concerns.

• Accountable as the “champion” of all Eighty Four, PA activities related to product development, the associated technology transfer, new product manufacturing and, if applicable, the initial market development for a full range of the location products. All product and market development activities will be consistent with the location business plan and customer requirements and align with future BU and Division business objectives.

• Accountable as the primary technical resource to supply knowledge, expertise and direction to the location Manufacturing, Quality and Sales functions to support all product and process development activities.

• Accountable directly and through others, to create manufacturing practices, procedures, systems, and structures which support the transfer of new product technology to production. Assists manufacturing to identify and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost. Manufacturing practices, procedures, systems and the work culture will include the core values of worker safety, compliance with environmental regulations and the facilities quality systems.

• Collaborate with production employees to understand automation needs in manufacturing process.

• Collaborate with customers to understand product property specifications and enhancements. May write new product specifications.

• Directly and through others, accountable for the effective and efficient allocation of all Product Development resources, capital and inventory. Accountable through others for all new product development Capital Appropriation Requests.

• Create and oversee the specification requirements for new equipment and processes. Will write KPI requirements for procurement of equipment and outside vendor services.

• Works with the plant leadership to establish and communicate the annual Eighty Four Product Development Business Plan and the related operating budget. Going forward, ensures all product development activities operate consistent with the Plan and the budget.

• Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and annual management reports to summarize all product development activities and successes.

• Develop and maintain documentation for new and existing systems, to include, but not limited to, SOP’s, training manuals, and instrumentation diagrams.

• Participate in trade shows and similar activities to share information about Eighty Four products, services and manufacturing capabilities to retain customer relationships and develop new business relationships.

• Maintain membership and active involvement in industry, trade and professional organizations for the benefit of the company and the employee.

• Maintain a self-improvement program through conferences, seminars, courses and readings to continue to develop expertise in manufacturing management, general management, relevant technical issues and the metals industry.

Position Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or other related technical degree. Other relevant degrees may be considered with prior powder metal experience. Master’s Degree a plus but not required.

• Must have experience in powder metallurgy parts (Press and sinter, MIM or additive manufacturing). Includes the production process, metallurgical characterization, and properties testing/performance. Corrosion experience a plus but not required.

• Five (5) years experience as a technical resource in powder metals with direct customer interaction.

• Ability to lead, participate in, or act independently to identify and implement process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives. Lean or Six Sigma experience desired.

• Experience with executing a project in a structured manner.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with individuals at all levels inside and outside the organization.

• Ability to provide occasional off-hours support as needed.

• Experience with SolidWorks/CAD a plus but not required
