Metrology Test Technician at Kinder Morgan, Inc.

Job Description:

Position Description

This position will be responsible for calibrating and testing field metrology equipment including high/low pressure, electrical and temperature devices (i.e. Fluke, Heise, Crystal, Thermoprobe, etc.). The calibration process utilizes Fluke Compass software, pressure controllers, electrical and temperature standards The individual must possess the ability to associate with a wide variety of people (personalities, skill and education levels, etc.) with tact, courtesy and professionalism.

Daily activities include:


  • Testing, certification and calibration of measurement test equipment.

  • Utilize\configure Fluke Compass software for calibrating test equipment

  • Operate Mensor and Ruska controllers for calibrating pressure equipment

  • Troubleshoot and repair field test equipment

  • Insure all technicians have up to date test equipment

  • Shipping and receiving of test equipment

  • Maintain certifications of lab standards.

  • Calibrate and repair pneumatic and hydraulic deadweight testers.

  • Manage calibration due dates for all measurement test equipment

  • Maintain monthly metrology lab budget

  • Perform monthly safety inspections in the lab

  • Providing technical support and assistance to Field Operations personnel.

  • Gas analysis through the use of gas chromatographs and gas quality analyzers.

  • Enhancing / developing laboratory procedures.

  • Travel estimated from 0 to 10% of the time to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to company and its insurer

  • Employee needs to possess the ability to lift and or move objects weighing 50 lbs.

  • Employee should possess good mechanical and electronic skills.

  • Provide chromatograph support for Daniel and ABB analyzers


Position Requirements

Educational Requirements (minimal requirements and any additional education or training that would be helpful)
An Engineering degree from an accredited institution - candidates with extensive experience (5+ years) and knowledge of the Metrology and Measurement discipline may be considered without an Engineering degree. Candidates with an Associate's degree in a related technical subject such as I&E or related military technical training will also be considered.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge (above the minimum requirements; not required, but advantageous in this position)


  • Knowledge of metrology and natural gas industry experience is preferred. Knowledge of industry's regulatory compliance requirements and standards.

  • Advanced computer software skills in Excel, Word, and Access

  • Knowledge in operating Mensor and Ruska pressure controllers

  • Knowledge in calibrating and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic deadweight testers

  • Knowledge in ABB and Daniel chromatographs is a plus.

  • Knowledge of Fluke Compass and Met Temp software
