The Family Navigator assures that youth and families with needs receive timely assistance. The Navigator
accomplishes this most effectively through one-on-one contact with the family at the point of investigation or
intake. The purpose of this process is to eliminate barriers to issues and providing recommendations to the
family. The target population is determined annually by the Baltimore County Local Management Board.


Grant funding requires that the position be filled by individuals who are considered “legacy parents”. This can be a parent or caregiver who has both professional and personal experience navigating many of the same challenges as the families they serve. This would mean navigator the social services, mental health and/or educational system in order to advocate for the special needs of a child.


JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conducts comprehensive youth and family needs assessments and provides information regarding
resources to the family based on their stated need.
• Provides workshops as needed by families and youth. Provides parents with education/workshops about
  trauma and ACEs and the association with negative outcomes throughout the lifespan. Strengthening
  parent’s skills to manage the needs of their children at home and in the community through parent
  education.
• Identifies, plans, and connects youth and families to resources needed, develops a plan with the family
  and/or youth to follow through on the contacts.
• Empowers families to speak up and articulate their concerns and needs.
• Follows-up with families and assist with problems that may arise after initial linkages have been made
• Participates in the Baltimore County Local Care Team meetings and Family Team Decision Making
  meetings, as needed.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services field.
• 2 years of experience navigating the systems of care to access appropriate services.


REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of state and local resources and ability to communicate effectively with all groups of
  individuals.
• Culturally attuned to the people of the community being served
• Highly associated and allied with critical stakeholders within the system, especially with the financial
  decision makers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven interpersonal and customer service skills that enables the offering of emotional support to family
  and/or youth.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to carry out the functions of the job
  effectively.
• If driving on Agency business, must be at least 21 years of age and have valid driver’s license issued by
  the state of residence, with no more than 3 points.
