Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is looking for you to join our growing team as a Principal / Senior Principal RF Microwave Design Engineer at our Advanced Aerospace Structures Facility in Kettering (Dayton), OH. We are a unique blend of scientists, engineers, and technicians that specialize in Low Observable antennas, radomes, electromagnetic structures, and RF testing primarily for aerospace applications. We design and manufacture solutions for our war fighters to keep our country safe and maintain peace on a global scale. Our electrical engineering group (RF Microwave Design) is afforded the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art designs, primarily for classified applications, in both team and individual settings. Our multi-faceted team consists of engineers and scientist with backgrounds in electrical engineering, LO technology, CEM, RF test, mechanical, structural, thermal, CFD, material science, process, and quality.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Team-focused research, manufacturing support, design, analysis, prototyping, and RF test using state-of-the-art measurement equipment (e.g. SCI-2K, waveguide, 52'x42'x90' RCS Compact Range) of electromagnetic structures and materials
  • Design and test of advanced structures using materials such as loaded honeycomb core and/or similar core geometries, loaded foams and elastomers, MAGRAM, R-Cards, Circuit Analog sheets / absorbers, and Frequency Selective Surfaces
  • Lead qualification and recurring test events to ensure compliance to requirements; major responsibility to RF test, but can also include qualification and ESS test events
  • Monitor the quality of the materials produced, establishing test criteria to ensure that the end products meet specifications
  • Support technical design reviews and provide technical guidance to the program office
  • Author test procedures and test reports as needed
  • Collaborate with multifunctional teams including Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Customers, Suppliers, and Quality
The ideal candidate enjoys both theoretical design and hands-on engineering tasks. You are an inquisitive problem solver, self-sufficient, and determined with a positive attitude. You have a broad range of skills involving electromagnetic applications and enjoy diving deeper into Low Observable challenges.

Travel can vary by program and tasks but is typically very minimal, less than 10%.

This role may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level based on the qualifications below.



Qualifications:




Basic Qualifications:

Principal Engineer
  • US Citizenship, with ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance
  • Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5+ years of relevant work experience; or Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience conveying technical information (both written and verbal)
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Senior Principal Engineer
  • US Citizenship, with ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance
  • Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 9+ years of relevant work experience; or Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience conveying technical information (both written and verbal)
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Electrical Engineering degree with a concentration in Electromagnetics
  • Aerospace experience, particularly hands-on with Low Observable structures
  • Experience in the design of Periodic Structures / Frequency Selected Surfaces (FSS)
  • Experience with EM software analysis tools (e.g. Ansys HFSS, CST, FEKO)
  • Basic programing experience (e.g. Matlab)
  • Understanding of S-parameters, Antenna Pattern measurements, and RCS measurements
  • Experience working with RF test equipment such as Network Analyzers, SCI-2K, Transmission Tunnel, Std Waveguides, Reflection Arch, and Resonant Cavities
