Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager/ Account Manager for the California region. Reporting to the Operations Manager of Power Solutions, this position is located in our Los Angeles, California office. This role has overall responsibility for the successful execution of substation, transmission and distribution projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV for our Customers in the Western United States.

Key Responsibilities


  • Provide project management for projects encompassing a variety of disciplines (including substation electrical, protection & control, telecommunications), civil, structural, transmission electrical) and encompassing a variety of scopes from engineering work packages (such as asset replacements) to complete engineering/procurement/construction/commissioning projects (such as greenfield substations and transmission lines). This will include the following:

    • Managing scope, schedule, budget, quality and risk in compliance with Wood's and Customer's policies.

    • Identifying appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project objectives. This will include liaising with relevant Engineering Manager(s) and Technical Lead(s), along with subcontractors

    • Monitoring the successful completion of deliverables in accordance with project requirements. This will include ensuring the completion of all technical reviews to ensure high quality design

    • Attending all project meetings (including design and constructability reviews) with Customer and ensuring appropriate attendance by project team

    • Proactively manage project tasks and implement measures to keep projects on schedule and within budget, including implementing change management processes



  • In collaboration with the Engineering Manager(s) and Technical Lead(s), establish work processes and instructions for effective project delivery, utilizing proprietary Wood and Customer systems

  • Support the growth of the local office by building/training a local team and establishing systems and procedures to enhance work collaboration with other offices

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Wood and assigned Customer(s) for technical and commercial issues related to projects. This includes developing and fostering relationships with Customer(s) to facilitate project activities

  • Support business development activities in the region, including supporting proposal preparation

  • Support other related activities as required by the Operations Manager




Skills / Qualifications




  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Engineering from a recognized university

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset

  • Minimum of 10 years engineering or operations experience preferably on substation or transmission utility projects, including at least 5 years increasing responsibility as a project manager

  • California PE registration (or ability to be registered) in a relevant discipline is an asset

  • Prior experience with construction , maintenance, and commissioning of substations and transmission lines

  • Strong written & verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience in:

  • Assessing, evaluating, and solving complex problems

  • Project earned value management, including analysis of cost and schedule variances, development of bottom-up estimates to complete and analysis of estimate at completion

  • Client service management

  • Clean driver's record and vehicle required to perform site visits as requested
