The Vanguard project focuses on improving kindergarten readiness for children in poverty. To accomplish this, we will implement Story Talk, an evidenced-based language and literacy program, in community and family childcare centers in high-needs communities in North Philadelphia. Teachers will receive training and coaching to implement effective strategies that will increase children's language and vocabulary and provide them with the vocabulary skills they need to for reading readiness.

An early Childhood Literacy coach will be hired for the Vanguard Project. This is a two-year, grant funded position.

The Literacy Coach will support teachers in North Philadelphia childcares to implement Story Talk, a research-based language and literacy program. The Coach will work directly with childcare Directors and teachers providing classroom-based demonstrations and one-on-one support and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers' ability to promote instruction that builds students' language and vocabulary development. The Coach will also train teachers to administer ongoing assessments. Performs other duties as assigned.



Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in education or early childhood, or related field and at least three (3) years of experience teaching young children (ages 5 years and below); experience providing coaching/supervision to other teachers and a deep knowledge of early literacy and language development. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Familiarity with childcares in communities of need and can identify with the community that they will serve.

*Outstanding interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring and coaching.

*Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.

*Strong organizational and management skills.

Preferred:

Master's Degree

This position requires a background check.

This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.

This is a grant funded position
