We are looking for a full time (36 hours/week) LPN or MA , preferably with Dermatology experience.

The Dermatology department of Vancouver Clinic is seeking a full-time Mohs Surgical Assistant to a ssists the Mohs surgeon by providing and controlling surgical instruments and equipment during Mohs stages. Ensures that instruments and supplies are cleaned, sterilized and available as needed. Provides hands on assisting with Mohs procedures and wound closures/repairs. Assists with lab/pathology processing of Mohs specimens. In addition, the Mohs assistant will assist the dermatology providers in day-to-day dermatology patient flow. The schedule for this position is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7:00am until 5:00p. Primary location is Columbia Tech Center, will need to be flexible to travel to Salmon Creek, as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Procedures:


  • Opens sterile supplies and sets up for each procedure.


  • Assists Mohs surgeon during procedure according to prescribed standards. Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.


  • Sets up procedure room, according to prescribed standards.


  • Assists Mohs surgeon throughout the procedure with instruments, and providing hands on assistance, according to prescribed standards.


  • Dress and provide wound care instruction for the surgery site.


  • Takes appropriate photographs of Mohs stages. Label and organize photographs.


  • Handles specimens for pathology according to prescribed standards.


Sterilization and aseptic technique:


  • Demonstrated expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions.


  • Knowledge of and ability to disinfect, clean and sterile surgical instruments, equipment and supplies.


  • Knowledge of or experience in equipment, such as ultrasonic cleaner and autoclaves. Understand of the processes to maintain the autoclave.


  • Assist in procedure room maintenance, including case preparation, room turnover, and instrument processing.


Other responsibilities:


  • Responsible for scheduling within the Mohs Queue.


  • Compiles and prepares surgical packs. Runs autoclave as needed.


  • Assist with inventory and storage of equipment and supplies.


  • Assists with emergencies as needed.


  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to all ages.


  • Performs medical assistant duties as required for non-Mohs patients, as part of the dermatology practice.


EDUCATION AND SKILLS


  • Current WA State Medical Assistant-Certified or LPN with the above experience.


  • Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS CPR certification.


  • Working knowledge of aseptic techniques and sterilization practices.


  • Two years of experience in an outpatient surgery center, Mohs dermatology practice, or office-based surgery department preferred.


  • Must have reliable and predictable attendance.
